Hey yal i have a 1990 toyota pickup 4wd extended cab with a 6cyl 3vze engine. I am either gonna rebuild the motor or swap for a 4 cyl. My question is whether I do either one what all i can I take out to create more room and to just not have un-needed stuff under the hood. I was thinking i could take out atleast the emissions stuff since I live in georgia and they do not test cars for emissions.

Could pull out the AC stuff, not sure how bearable that would be for you down there in Georgia.. Could pull off power steering also? A few people have done some cleanups of the engine bay, check out litneon's build page. I believe his is the 22re, can't remember off the top of my head.. so it's not the 6 like you've got but you may be able to cross some of it over.

You can also do the intake/batt swap to clear up a bit of room infront of your engine.

I would like to keep a/c and power steering as this will be a daily. I was interested in removing most of the vacuum lines that went to the solenoids. If most of them are required for emissions, I would like to get ride of them all to keep the engine bay simple.

if your gonna do a swap, I'd go for the 3.4 5vze out of 1995.5-2004 Tacos and 4runners

with the 3.4 is it a direct swap? and what kind of gas mileage does it get with respect to the 3.0 and 22r

I don't know what you mean by direct swap? If your going to put a motor in that is different than what it came with your gonna have to modify or fabricate something, its a given..Even if you go to the 22re. I would assume gas mileage would be similar to 3.0 and probably best mileage out of 22r. Do some research on this website, lots of engine swaps have been done here..

I believe the 3.4 will bolt right up to the engine mounts in the 3.slow. I have heard/read that it is a fairly easy swap on the mechanical side. There are some companys out there that make harneses to make it all work electrical wise. If I remember the intake on the 3.4 is taller than the 3.0 so alot of the off road guys will add a small body lift or a cowl hood. Definatly look around on yotatech or even pirate4x4 as there are alot of guys who have done the swap.

the 3.4L is so much more efficient than the 3.0L.

You could relocate the battery to the rear
