hey guys, well i just got a 95 standard cab and im new to the mini scene always lifted trucks never lowered them. i was thinking 2/3 drop then mess with the torsions for another inch. question is what wheel and tire combo works best with this setup without rubbing issues? truck is completly stock.
For me Ive always gone with the smallest tire that would fit on whatever size rim I was using at the time. Alot of it has to do with road conditions & how much youll be driving your truck too. I dont have to drive my truck alot so having a small ass tire is ok for me. With the drop that your planning to go with I would install a set of 18's.
smctoy, thanks for the reply roads here are horrible and i probably wont drive it much i live 2 minutes from work just maybe in the summer 80 mile trip to the shore would 18s be ok? or should i go with 16s?
I run 17" x 7" ADR rims with a +45 offset ( for my airride ) they are outfitted with Lexani 205 - 40 - 17's with nitrogen fill. I find the ride on the highway and interstate to be sweet, the things or conditions that scare me are the huge potholes & highway refuse. These are summer z rated tires and are direction ( only run one way ) Overall like the ride, itsa small ( not so wide tire - for looks ) but they treat me just fine. Another thing to keep in mind, when you find or wanna decide on a tire/wheel combo, make sure you use a speed correction calculator, to calculate what the difference would be to your speed gauge and your engine rpm's when your haulN' tail down the road. I use the calculator @ http://www.1010tires.com/TireSizeCalculator.asp , Toyota pickups 1979 - 88 run a ( 195 - 75 - 14 as a stock tire ) thatll give ya your ( stock size input feild ) then just play with your numbers, youll catch on. Now with that in mind, If you arent running highway speeds alote or dont plan on making 90 mile commutes everyday, you can get away with running a smaller tire - if ya run a smaller tire on the highway youll sacrafice engine RPMS and gas mileage. When I run my 75' around town in the summer I just put on the 195 - 55 - 15's and its low but the bumps are a bizitch. . . My opinion, bigger rims smaller tires - 15's are OK, 16's can be hard to find tire sizes for - 17's very big market for tires as well as 18's, 19's " Ive heard " are a ( pita ) to find tires for, 20's and 22's are VERY popular with s-10 & Nissan owners and some are moving into 24's . . . Stick with 17's or 18's youll be fine and your wallet will love ya . . .
I run a 235/45 r17 but I'm only going with a 2/3 drop and am going to be autcrossing the truck sooooooo
thanks for the replies, i checked out alot of pics on this forum seen alot of trucks with a 2/3 drop with 18s. i kinda like the staggered look if you run this setup please post a pic and detailed specs of your your wheels and tires.
Ok, so it's not really bagged, but if it were, I'd definitely be OK with it. I run 18x7.5" wheels with 225/40-18 tires in the front and 18x9.5" wheels with pair of 265/35-18 meats in the rear.
litneon, you made my day thats the look im going for what are the offsets? and will i need to use a 1" spacer up front with 2wd fenders?
I hate to say this, but I really don't remember. Let me look around this afternoon and see if I saved that info anywhere. I do remember that the fronts are a -42mm offset with the spacer added. And I don't think you would need the spacers with the 2wd fenders. The rear offset was different I think. I'll have to check.
i run 17's too. 245/40 on 17x8 97 mustang cobra rims. 17's are the most common "big rim" so the tire choice is awesome. they clear with very lil rub this low, not sure how it drives yet, its been snowing over here.
I have always anticipated it. It has always been the plan, just waiting on the funds and the time.... Oh, hightolow I believe the rear offset is a -20mm with this width of wheel. When it comes time I'll help you get your measurement. It depends on a few simple calculations. Just let me know. By the way, I just read your messages, Sorry.
Man, I gotta tell you guys something you may already know, but most everything we all discuss here is pretty freakin' helpful. It's addicting! I can't go a day without checking in to see what's up, and if there's nothing new there's tons of reading going thru past threads which I have learned a ton from. Anyhow, LOWNLOUD, thanks a bunch for that link. I'm thinking about purchasing a set of wheels tomorrow and for the past few hours I was thinking in my head I'd run a certain tire size. Only now did I go to that link and discover....no go. Gotta go with a different size. You all might have enough experience to figure all this out without the use of the calculator link, but with my lack of experience in that department, it's very helpful. Makes it so much easier to NOT make any costly mistakes. Been there. Done that.
another good one, also tells you how it will affect the speedo. http://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalc.html
and this one shows same sized tires with different sized rims. http://www.rims-n-tires.com/rt_specs.jsp
Those are good 2, got those marked as well, thanks for chimming them in. When I first got into this, I spent weeks and weeks of research. Im so glad we could help yet another member . . .
i got to agree with toyboy this is addicting only had the truck for 3 months it was my fathers he bought it new in 95 the truck was rearended and my father lost interest in it and gave it to me luckily enough i found a bed on craigslist with a welded on roll pan and zero rust. i wasnt to sure about the rollpan but for 250.00 couldnt pass up. when i put the bed on the truck i immediately thought lower it. did some research and found this forum and now im hooked reading it everyday getting new ideas. litneon thanks again for all that info.
