    Hi All;

    Thank you for participating in this resource - hope someone can help. I have a tired but useable 87 pickup with automatic and a 22r motor. I have other issues I can see where to post, but this one I can't find a spot for...

    The shifter on the steering column is very loose - lots of play in it and I have been trying to find info on it. Is it bushings? I am pretty handy but didn't want to dive into it without the likely parts needed before hand. Any suggestions appreciated..kinda urgent, worried it will finally break at a bad time.

    Many thanks!

    Just to point it out, either the Maintenance/repair or Engine/Drivetrain sections under '84-88 would work.

    But, if it is at all like the 89-95's then I would guess that it is bushings. There isn't too much to the linkage. There is a shaft (connected to the shifter) that goes through the firewall and connects to a pushrod of sorts at the end of a lever. The pushrod travels down to a pivot that turns that motion 90 degrees or so and transfers it to another pushrod that in turn travels back to the shifter lever on the side of the tranny. I would check the bushings in the shifter shaft inside the dash, and the bushings and such down at the pivot mounted between the frame and engine at the base of the firewall driver's side.

    Thanks man. I can't find a source for these - do I just show up at the dealer and hope they do me right with this? Know of anywhere I can source these bushings? I don't really want to disassemble without the likely parts...I can always return what I don't use...
