Hey there folks, it's been awhile since I've been on. My buildup has been on hiatus for over a year now, I decided against putting a 'vette 327 in my truck then happened across a 87 Supra with 60k original miles for THREE HUNDRED BUCKS, so that's what I'm going with. (7MGTE with a 5 speed) Just looking for a little advice on this swap. From my understanding I will need 5m motor mounts since my truck originally came with the 22r, is that right? Any tips or advice would be muuuuch appreciated

im in the process of getting my 7mgte running in my 2wd 91 pickup, my swap was fairly involved becuase my truck is a uk toyota hilux pickup, the engine mounts were different as i had a 1.8 petrol.

you will need to modify the gearbox mount, get a custom prop, custom exhaust, not to mention give the 7mgte some tlc, has the head gasket been seen to?

all the info on wiring is avaliable online too, sorry if you already know this, im just assuming you dont
do you know much about 7mgte's?

I'm actually new to 7m's, I've read about them a bit here and there always liked the idea of them(I'm more partial to 2jzs tho), so I initially wasn't looking to put one in my truck, but I just happened across this deal so I jumped on it. I've found the wiring info already, it's pretty straight forward. I was just looking for a little advice on what's gonna give me the most trouble. I kinda figured the gearbox mount would take a little work. First thing I'm doing before i get started on it is gonna be put in a gasket set and a timing belt. The car hasn't been on the road in a few years so I anticipate it'll probably need injectors and what not, but I'll handle that after I've got it set up in the truck.

Ok for anyone that knows anything about this swap, will a Supra Fuel pump fit in the stock pickup's tank? Looking for a little simplicity here.

If you have any upgrades on the 7m the stock pump won't work anyway and the easiest way is to get a welbro 255 fuel pump it's an inline pump. And will support upgrades to 550-600ish HP

yeh driftmotion is my favourite place for 7m bits, good prices and aaron is the man.

you would probably want to upgrade the headgasket for a multi layer metel one if your going to run any kind of boost and possibly an ARP head stud and nut kit, also remove the EGR valve rubbish,

last question for now, what gearbox do you have, the R154 or the w58?

Ya but you have to get the block and head resurfaced to a very smooth finish for a mhg. You could manage a bit over 300hp or so with a toyota hg and arp studs if you can't afford all the machine work.

    mk3 supra (7mgte) online manual:

    MK3 TEWD On-Line

    MK3 TSRM On-Line

Thanks guys! I'll check out driftmotion then. I guess I'll just get the walbro now so I wont have to worry with swapping stock pumps around. @Kaleb if your talking about the wiring info to put into a truck, I found it on supracharged.com. I got a Cometic MHG to go in it, did not know i'll have to get machine work done to install it.... and I'm not sure what the gearbox is rob, whatever came stock on the 87 turbo

if it was a stock turbo car it will have the r154, i did also forgot to mention about the machine work which will be needed, which Planemos pointed out,

poeple have done the MHG with only a headskim and minor block prep, but that would be a false economy to do so,

the 7mgte can be very unforgiving when it comes to a lack of good upkeep, but a well kept one will serve you well. i built a few now with good results, i have always used MHG's with ARP's and machine work, what sort of boost was you going to run?

I'm planning on running around stock boost, maybe a touch more, I'm basically building it up as a daily driver. how much "modification" will be needed on the oil pan?

Eh, sorry guys haven't been on here since '12. The build got put off, got in a bind and sold the ol' 7m for triple what I paid for it. About to go back with a 22re for a bit since I need something easier on gas than my Chevy for a daily driver. I've got big plans in the near-distant future. I don't know if I'll go back with a 7m build, Slap a turbo on the 22re, or what.
