Hey guys, found an AE86 around my area on craigslist. It's all there more or less, the motor and tranny are out of it but the guy says he's got a 4age silver top and tranny that he will sell with the car for $1000 total. I know nothing about these motors, are they any good? Is the deal worth $1000? I haven't seen pictures of the car yet.

really simple cars to work on....... that silver top is worth some money and has some good power stock. for 1000 bucks, if you really wanna put it together, id say its worth it IMO.

It looks like a bit of a project ey. Do you have any other motors in your posession? Maybe a 22re? You could swap one of those in and not pay for the motor he's trying to sell.

unfortunately, the 22re will not bolt in, will have roughly 60 hp less, and less economy out of it.

I have a couple small blocks but I don't really want to small block it. He also has another AE86 that's the hatch style that has an S2000 motor in it, but he wants 3k for that one and it's gutted about as far as it can be.. Look at the pics of it..

Don't have 3k laying around though.

They both honestly look like basket cases. But, for 1000 dollars you can't expect much more than that. Does he have the hardware still? Do you like assembling things that you don't know where things go exactly? Do you get frustrated easily? Do you like wiring? Have you ever done a motor swap and know what all it takes?

Either car is a LOT of work. I'd show up with 800 cash.

These cars are soo far and few between and it's in my top 5 favorite cars of all time. He has a complete car for 2,200 I'm just like $400 short from buying it or I would just get the complete running car. It's the red one on the left. The blue one on the right he's wanting 3,000 for but I would prefer the hatch. Bahhhh I would kill to own one of these..

Show up with 400 short and offer it to him. Or yet, offer to pay him 50 bucks a week until it's paid off.

+1. They are buckets. No master cylinder? Come on, really? He parted it out and then tries to sell the corpse for a grand. Pass!

But if your interested, I have an AE86 Power steer crossmember with Small block ford mounts welded on it. LOL

If he has the harness for the silvertop 20V you can almost make all your money back from just that or more. To bad its a sr5 not a gts. If the running one is bone stock and has the 4afe it is not worth the $ the shell and silvertop is more of a deal. You should be able to get a nice running sr5 for less than a G. And swap in the silvertop into that. If you get the running 1 you will probably end up swaping the engine and rearend out anyway. GL either way you go.
