I'm in PA and my truck is a model california. The rear 02 sensor is shot and I would like to swap the ECU to a 49 state model rather then buy the rear 02 sensor. Has any one done this or have info on it?

I know the rear O2 sensor isn't the only difference. you may or may not have to change the whole harness.

wouldnt a o2 sensor be a lot cheaper then the ecu?

I'm thinking it might run better on the 49 state ECU. ECU's are cheap at the u-pull-it yards. What else do think might need to be changed? where can i find info on differences?

Find a wiring diagram and plug picture set from the TSRM (Sorry, can't help there). You'll probably have to trace pins/wires yourself. Functionally, there really isn't much difference between cali/49 computers back then.

Also, rear O2 sensor doesn't affect how the engine runs, only the front O2 sensor does. the rear O2 sensor is only to monitor cat efficiency.

Thanks. I wasn't sure if the computer was programed differently for cali and made less power or not.
