    Hey all,

I have a 92 22re 4wd that has started giving me some problems so I wanted to ask for the advice of the pros. Here's the story: I was driving on the highway for a couple hours and the truck started to jerk a little at the end of the trip. It felt like a missing cylinder or something, but I've changed the entire ignition system so I don't think that was it.

So I got home and decided to clean out the throttle body and the maf sensor. I drove to auto zone to get the maf sensor cleaner and the truck ran good. I cleaned the tb then proceeded to break the maf sensor when I took it apart. Then it wouldn't start at all. I got a new maf sensor and replaced it, and now the engine idles poorly and really bogs out when I try to accelerate. It's not driveable at all. Does any of this make sense? Ring any bells?:brickknock: Any advice would be appreciated.

    Thanks,
    Tyson

Lets get some facts down and get you going. You have a AFM air flow meter, a TPS throttle position sensor. By cleaning out the throttle body you most likely messed the TPS up. it needs to be functioning properly ans set for proper function. Read here Toyota 22RE Throttle Position Sensor to learn how to do that. Once that is set and checked to do it's job move to the AFM. Check the FSM factory service manual (you can find it online try googleing ttora toyota FSM) I'd give you the link but that would defeat the purpose of making you find your own answers thus making you a better problem solver. So check the AFM for [proper function/ make sure the little door inside the thing moves and produces the right voltage. Once the big things have been eliminated check the intake tube for cracks. Then move to the vacuum system throughout the motor and check for leaks. I'm not going to ttell you how to check just search via google and figure it out (again not to be an ass just making you solve your problems).
The Afm and the TPS both tell the ECU (electronic control unit) what the motor needs fuel wise and where the throttle is to properly add or decrease fuel while the motor moves throughout the rpm range.
So we've covered that right? Check the other basic stuff as well. Pull your plugs make sure they're not fouled or wet from antifreeze ( i know you just replaced them trust just check it'll will eliminate that possibility) Make sure other simple stuff is good as well including but not limited to your antifreeze level. This is how we diagnose problems and fix them as opposed to throwing parts and hoping. I'm guilty of this as well but learned after a few years and Gods knows how much money.
God luck and bump the thread with what you find and how you found it so others can search and find the answer to this way more than common problem on the 22re.
