I get a bit of leaves etc blowing through these from time to time thanks to the mice setting up house in the heat/air ducts. Can the vents be removed by prying or will that crack the plastic?
the vents do just pop off...they might feel like you're going to break them, just take your time. when i took mine off for the first time i was really nervous about it but they all came out without a problem. I worked only from the sides and tried to keep my hands away from the middle, thin plastic as much as possible. also, definitely take the dash off and check all the vent ports out.
When I took mine off, I used a long flat screwdriver. If you look inside the vents you'll see some holes on one side of the vent, that's the side you should put the screwdriver into. Place the screwdriver between the vent and the dash, add a little pressure, use your fingers and pull it out on that side. Just be careful not to twist too hard with the screwdriver or you could crack your vents. I had all my vents out in 5 minutes. I had this same problem with my vents blowing crud out, I had to take my blower motor off and clean alllllllllll of this out of it.. Damn mice. You should probably remove your vents, take the blower motor out, clean all the crud out, put the motor back on, then turn it on for a bit to blow anything left in the pluming out, or use an air hose to blow them out when you have the motor off.
What did you use to get the screw near the back out?The one on mine seems to be in at an angle towards the side. Not much room there to get at it.
I used a thin one, it doesn't have to go all the way to the back, just about halfway right in the middle. There are two pins that stick out on both side of the vent, that allow it to swivel up and down, the side with the two little holes is the side you want to pry on.
Oh! I misread what you asked! Ha ha, sorry mate. I used an 8mm (I believe) socket to take out the screws, the back one was hard to get to but I got it out with an extension attached, to an elbow, attached to the socket. And as you could see in my picture, I pulled back the carpet to give me a little extra room.
Thanks! Those angled elbows are worth their weight in gold.I'm ordering a set of three for all my drive sets.
