Hello to all! I'm new to this forum and Toyota trucks. Bought this 1988, Reg. cab 4x4, 5 speed to use at my hunting camp. Previous owner stated that he removed the transfer case shifter out, rotated 180 deg., and reinstalled it because of wear on the end. It shifts Ok but I was wondering if it could be repaired or if a replacement could be purchased. He also says the end could be welded and ground smooth. Does this sound right?
    Thanks,
    Bamasport

It sounds worth a try to me. I haven't seen this type of wear, but I imagine he just means there is some kind of little flat spot on the ball part of the end of the shifter that goes into the tcase. Pic for illustration:

If that is the case and there is a little dent from wear in the ball then yes, I agree that welding it up and sanding it smooth could be a good option.
