I got a 88 22r carb and when I start my car and get into high rmp it makes this chattering sound and I think its the timing chain plungers but I'm not sure. I just put in a timing chain kit in it about 5 months ago. Any other thing that would make that sound?

might be valves..but it could be the timing chain slapping around side to side

Are you sure the chatering is coming from inside the timming chain cover? I hope its not bearings but If so pull your valve cover and inspect it with a light. Check your guides. Timming chain plungers do you mean the tensioner?

Ya I mean tensioner. Ya it came with new metle guides and everything. I hope its not the bearings ether cuz that would suck but I dont think it is cuz it only does it when I start the car and somtimes in higher rpm. Could it be my oil pump going out and not giving the tensioner enough presher cuz it works off the oil pump right?

    bearings

Your symptoms sound like bearings to me. It does it right when you start your truck and goes away quickly? And high rpms? Drain your oil and check for flakes.

Juust change the oil about a month ago and it was clean. I'm going to start with the tensioner and see what that does. Shouldn't be that hard cuz I won't be messing with the timming chain.

    locate first

You changed your oil a month ago but since then the noise has started right? I'm just saying that usually when your bearings go out they flake off that chrome surface into your oil and it settles in the bottom of your oil pan. YOu can check your tensioner easily by removing the v-cover and making sure there is tension on your chain. OR even better remove cam sprocket with out removing the chain of the sprocket( so you dont mess with you timming) and put it back on and you should hear the tensioner squirt. If you remove your timming cover you might as well put on a new oil pan and head gask. I think the easiest way is to get a stethascope and locate the noise first. That way you dont have to spend on a bunch of new gaskets.
