well i got this 78 toyota hilux shortbed from my buddy he bought it for me for 600 bucks off of another friend im the second owner and it was the guys grandparents truck its got 124,000 original miles its a 20r 5spd and it passes smog with flying colors the smog guy was amazed when it was smogged he said he had never seen a truck this old pass this well it came with 2 sets of tires 4 were on it and 4 were in the back and 7 hubcaps i buffed 4 of them out and slapped them on after i painted the rims black then i put some offroad lights on the cab kinda stupid but yeah the body was in okay condition i need a new tailgate/hood/grill/valance/front pass. fender other then that i can do the body work i did wheel it a little bit before i started doing bodywork it has the original bench seat and its got a sound system and a tach and a cb/pa hooked up and white rusty toolbox im currently doing body work on it and by the end of this summer it will be straight with no dents and probably white or olive drab thanks for looking any helpful tips are always good
couple more pics as of last week the roof is primered and so is the drivers bedside im working on the other side now and i know some may not like bondo but i have no money and i already had the bondo i work on it at my dads buddys body shop in santa cruz he teaches me how to do it and hes gonna teach me how to spray it and how to do body work the right way and feeling the dents and so on and the pictures are: the one with the rusty white rims and the stuff in the back is when i got it the other one with the white rims is after i pressure washed it and made it white again i then put the mags on for a while then did the black rims with hubcaps and the body work pictures are self explanitory the roof had at least 50 dents in it and now its primered along with the bedside
maybe a little bit im not quite sure yet i would like to either lower it or make it a 4x4 but lowering is easier
yeah its going to be more of a beater i am finishing the body work on the passengers side and callin it quits as far as looks
its probably gonna be a crawler/wheeler i got most of the parts to do it toyota straight axle tranny transfer rear end and leaf springs and drive shafts
some of an update i converted the brake booster and master to a 87 master backed by a 90 4runner booster and boy does it stop good and i was having problems with it getting to hot so i just got done replacing the fan clutch with one off a newer toyota and did a 180 thermostat and its got new radiator hoses if i didnt already state that and if anyone needs parts there is a 75? hilux out at our local pick n pull its white its got a good radiator/fender/hood/ headlights and good interior parts its got no tail lights cause i took those and a good tailgate with a broken latch i dont know if the latches are fixable though and i put mag rims on the front but soon as my brakes go bad in the front i am throwing a 78 scout axle in it with 8 lug chevy spindles and stuff in the front
update: i was wondering what was behind the paint on my rear roll pan thing after my buddy stripped his to metal on his 74 so i didnt get very far but the whole rear roll pan is got at least 3 coats of bondo on the whole thing and with the right bed corner where the reflector is.. and my buddys gf backed into it the other night pushed the hood in and broke one side of the grill in a couple different spots
bondo machine ya some girls just will do that from time to time u need to 4x4 it and get revenge lol ya dont lower it than its useless stuck to the streets u need to roll with the big boys and smash all over the lil toys below u ha ha ha ha
i am probably the only one on this site that things this picture/whats in it is awesome Toyota minis meet Deer Killer 5000
pure. awsome I think its purpose built so its not useless its totally practical and usefull and does not effect or degrade the truck at all. " pure awsome"
smart guy comment ^^^^^ ha anyways i like how no one comments anymore just at the start of the build ha
Wow that is some sort of push bar/ spike. Should point it down somemore so that way it stabs the deer. HAHAHA
haha that is our version of a stinger offroad bumper since we dont have a tube bender ha its awesome though vance aka tater actually wrote Deer Killer 5000 on both sides im keepin the name but looking at it from the side or front it makes the truck look like a unicorn haha
