straight forward no fabbing/modding???? NO. Unless you want to install a 22rte (turbo 22re)

yeah only 22rte is the only more or less drop in and even then entire wiring harness and CPU will be needed.

The 3tgte would not be a good choice. It's only 1.8 liters and replacement parts are almost impossible to get. Good luck finding the eight point distributor cap for that motor.

The only drop in would be the 22rte motor. They are hard to find in good condition. If you do find one, expect the exhaust manifold to be cracked and the turbo to be toasted. The cheapest GOOD aftermarket exhaust manifold is $500. The crackhead $200 stovepipe manifolds on ebay are crap and unusable. The electronics are primitative/simple and very easy to swap into a carbed truck. I have a 22rte swapped 87 short bed and it's alot of fun @ 10psi with the intercooler.

If you want 200+ horsepower with a dead solid reliable toyota motor, the 1uz/5speed swap is the way to go. I completed my 1990 cressida 1uz swap a month ago and love it. I kept the cressida as an automatic but I know a 5 speed conversion would really be an improvement.

I bought another 1uz to replace the 22rte in my truck for $225. The parts needed for the 5speed conversion will cost $900 (which includes a custom billet flywheel). The 1uz will outperform the 22rte, operate much smoother at high rpms and will not have the issues that come with hot turbo's and over heat related issues.
