Hi everyone, my name is Junior. I just bought my new, old used Toyota truck ever, so I'm new to Toyota side. My truck has 280,000 original miles, no smoke, no leak, but it just started knocking recently due to the previous owner drove the truck on the hwy with the vacum hose came lose from the distributor, don't know if that threw off timing or did damaged the internal. The knocking sounds like it's coming from the back towards the firewall. I'm hoping it just needs valves adjustment. I'm waiting for my brother to come take a look at it this coming weekend. I'm hoping not something serious, internally. Glad to be a part of this forum. Taking any advices on the engine knocking. Doing research on it as of now.
From what I can see in the pictures it looks to me that it is a 77 truck, the vacuum to the distributor being unhooked shouldn't have done any damage to speak of, possibly a little sluggisher than normal and fuel mileage down, but wouldn't cause any internal damage. is it a definate knock knock sound? or a clicking clatter noise, the latter more of valve adjustment noise, the knock more a rod or piston type noise, is it a pronounced knock at idle or at a faster idle? if so you could pull 1 plug wire from the spark plug at a time and if the noise quiets down when the plug isn't firing that usually a sign of a possible rod knock Hopefully I,m wrong but ya never know. Good luck
if you were wondering, the video is on private, just FYI. I like the truck man! I'd grab a few microfiber towels and use Meguiar's ultimate compound to remove the oxidized paint. It'll make her shine like new! Clay bar the paint, polish it, and put on some wax, I think it'll look grab with the original paint. It's saveable!
great looking truck! hope your planning on removing that boat anchor of a back bumper, it would look so much cleaner!
Thanks Preracer for the offered. It's nice to see another member close by. The project truck is coming along nicely, slowing, but surely. The the seat bench recovered, but still need to sand and paint the bottom seat frame red to match the new red vinyl. The fenders, grill, bumper, bed, and other parts are off the truck. Engine will come out shortly, waiting on the engine hoist. Will post update pictures later.
Welcome I could not hear the video but in the pictures I noticed what looks like carbon from an exhaust leak. I have seen where people have mistakened that for a knock.
