Hello, Noob here, I need your advice on carb adjustment. I completed a carb rebuild and it appears to be running too lean. Here’s the story. I have an 85 Toyota Pickup, Four wheel drive with R22 engine and Aisan 2-barrel carb. At cruising speed it would sputter as if it wasn’t getting enough fuel. Press on the gas pedal slightly and the sputter would go away. Decided to clean and rebuild the carb. Now it won’t idle at all. It starts and runs when the choke plate is in the cold position (closed) although it does run a bit rough. If I push the choke plate a bit closed the rpm increases. Once the engine is warmed and the choke plate opens all the way the engine dies. I can keep it going by restricting the air intake or keeping it revved. Let off the gas pedal and it dies. No idle. I have verified the following; Removed all the jets and cleaned with carb cleaner and compressed air. The idle adjustment needle is set as per the manual (turn in until it stops then back it out 2.5 turns) The choke is set as per the manual and operates correctly. The float is set as per the manual and the fuel level in the gauge window is correct. The idle shut off solenoid is operating correctly. So, what the heck am I missing?
usaly the carb adjustment from the books is a starting point the 2.5 turns out they do that so you can get it running then adjust it from there
You should dump the stock carb and get a progressive weber, it's easier to work with and will perform better and give better gas milege
Progressive weber? Please give me more info on the progressive weber. Where do you get them? Do they have a type number or other identifying information? Thank, Ross
