ok so heres my problem last i was driving my truck when i suddenly hearing rattling from under truck like from the cat converter, then i noticed my truck was over heated when i got a chance to pull over it died on me well pulling off, i lift the hood and steam blowing every where, i let it sit for a while before trying to crank it over again, it finally turns over after many attempts and persisitance, but its starts smoking badly from the muffler and idling rough, anyone have any ideas? imo ithink its the cat conv and muffler are both shot:confused::confused::confused:
sorry for being so lenthy just want to paint the picture, btw its a 92 22re single cab sb 2wd

Sorry homie but i really doubt its your exhaust system. Seeing that you overheated it to the point of it dying and then having a hard time trying to start it. Sounds like you blew your head gasket and maybe warped your head a little. That would cause hard starting because of loss compression due to the head gaskets failure and the smoking issue which is probably burning oil and coolant. If your exhaust smoke is white and smells like kfc colslaw you can bet your head gasket is gone and i really wouldn't drive it to prevent further damage. Look into it.

When cold check your coolant level,do not run with low or none there!!!
If steam was present sounds to be coolant related!!
Find the cause, broken or damaged hose, radiator, water pump,or the valve @ the passenger side of the block that water flows through, smog related item, when @ running temp. closes & takes the engine out of cold start! If bad will cause the cat to fail!
If the cat it will have a rattle running or just banging on it most of the time! Also can produce a bad smell!

yep sound to be a blow head gasket with all the white smoke out of the exhaust. i don't recommend even starting it so you don't damage it more.
