79-81 Tailgate fitted to a 82-83 Bed?

    Hi guys, quick question

    After converting the front on my 82 to the older style round head lights I thought I would change up the tailgate to the 79-81 style. aswell

    Will it fit? I'm thinking it will do, but the latches will needed to be mounted to the bed

    Look at my avatar is it the same tailgate? My bed is an 87 had to cut upper corners and indent on the bed to put on hooks for the latches.LMK

    Hood, did you do the convertion? I want a late '70s tailgate for my 87 jap bed. Has anyone else done this?

    ?? My 82 has the two latch tailgate??

    Maybe it was an option instead of a year thing.

    the earlier tailgate will fit right in. i had both version when i built my 79 yota. the only difference is the earlier beds had a hook for the latches to attach to when the gate was shut.

    Thats great news. Those hook are removable? Will I have to move the hinges at the bottom of the gate? Just from looking at it I can tell the lines on the bottom of the 76-83 gate wont match the 84-88 bed. But I can deal with that to have the TOYOTA stamped gate.
