81 brake booster on a 95

    Im fixing to be replacing my friends brake booster on his 95 with a smaller one from an 81. I know that i'm going to have to do something with the rod between the booster and master, but what exactly needs to be done?

    1992 std cab, 1986 std cab
    On my 92 I put a smaller booster from an older toy (can't remember the year) and it bolted right up with no issues. I didn't have to modify the rod at all.
