Hellp, I am brand new to this forum and also brand new to owning a Toyota. I just bought a 1992 Toyota Hilux. However, there is a quite a bit wrong with it and I need a little help. None of the gauges work (Fuel, Temperature, Speedometer) nor does the Odometer. I was curious as to if someone could give me a list of possible diagnosis. I also seem to have a small leak coming from my fuel tank, however, I think it may just be because I filled it all the way up and it is overflow. I am not real handy when it comes to vehicles but I am looking to learn. I am hoping that this forum is the place to help me. THANKS!!
Check your fuses. Thats easiest. Id say pull the gauge cluster out and see if its even connected. Ur fuel leak might be a loose hose or something
this happens to me all the time: it became a random cycle of working, not working, working, etc. exact problem--fuel, temp, speed, odo. I never figured it out, I just assumed it was a loose wire somewhere or something. I actually just took out my cluster a few days ago.. all I remember is removing screws, taking some panels off, and removing screws on the cluster itself then it just comes out. ^hopefully someone can explain that better good luck!
I think u needa remove the lower half of the dash on the drivers side. Then the whole panel surrounding the gauges. Its only a few screws To remove the panels. Then the gauges only have 4 screws and then just disconnect. Ur cluster i believe is all electronic
I got the temp gauge and fuel gauge fixed but still have the odometer and speedometer down. What is the name of the cable that I need? I figured I would try that first.
Yes, but it has to get the information for the reading from somewhere, and the speedometer gets its reading from the cable that runs to the transmission, does it not? I have replaced fuses, and my temp and fuel gauge now work, but the speedometer and odometer do not.
Ok so since I dont know what Jettas is talkin bout cause both my 91 and 94 have cable speedo's I had to replace the cable from the tranny to the cluster to fix my problem. However if it is indeed an electric one then check the relay/sending unit, as it may be fried. Im gonna actually guess thats the problem is the sending unit on the tranny or wherever it is being toast. If you got a library or book store nearby try to find a chiltons or haynes repair manual and look it up to see where it is unless someone here has more insight,
Lol well sh!t from wat i read in the past the newer model trucks didnt have a speedo cable. They had an electric sending unit
