To install new valve springs, keepers, and retainers is it necessary to remove the head? or can this be done by just removing the valve cover? my guess is i can do it by removing the valve cover. (on a 22re) Gracias
well if you are skilled there is a way to fill the cylinder with compressed air to keep the valve up and then replace the springs and whatnot, but even for professionals accidents happen. if the valve drops into the cylinder you would have to pull the head. im not going to explain how to do this trick so im not responsible if you do mess it up
The head bolts pass threw the rocker arm assembly and then once you get that off you can get to the valve springs Once you get the head bolts and rocker assembly off it will look like this
Ahhhh i see. dam well i guess imma have to wait till i do my rebuild to install those. .... thanks for the knowledge guys.
Aint the bolts on the R series motors reuseable? I kno te are on the older motors. Dont kno bout the RE tho
I believe you do have to replace em. but since i have to replace em i might go with arp head bolts which are reusable
I have re-used them in the past but you have to clean the threads really well with a tap and die set so that when you torque them you get an accurate torque reading
22re head bolts can be re-used. At least i've re-used a few sets. ARP's are over kill for these motors unless you plan on turboing it. Just rte-use and check the torque after 500 miles, then 1000, then the next oil change.
