Never heard of the guides being available seperately. When the timing kit is only around $50 shipped and you obviously will be there anyway I'd never put a used chain back in.

I paid $58 for the whole kit and gasket at my local O'Reilly parts store.

My chain only has maybe 25000 miles on it an that's it. That's all the motor has on it also. I don't want to put the plastic one back in. I think the reason it broke is cuz I have so much compression an torque.

What kind of motor mods have you done to the 22re. X2 on just installing another kit as the one you put in is of obvious lower quality due to the plastic guides. If you're going to do it do it right and be done with it. engnbldr kits are good as i've used them before. How much is your time worth?? 50 bucks doing it right or a couple hundred after you have to possibly tear into it again?

 The color you painted the valvecover has just as much to do with it as that does. It broke because its a cheap plastic guide plain & simple. If you have hi seat pressure valvesprings and a huge cam it puts added strain on things but thatsit.

Engnbldr is amazing. Experience for the past few decades. Email Ted @ engnbldr.com if you need anything. Ask him questions and what not. He will help you.

Yup put several engines together with his parts. Good stuff especially for the price. You won't be sorry.

Is his rebuild kits better than the eBay ones. I have to build a motor for my offroad 4runner.

I have a eBay rebuild kit in the motor I have now

I'd say yes they are better than the ones on e bay. Granted I've never used an e bay kit but I have faith in Teds parts. :D His head gasket is second only to factory toyota. I'll actually be ordering a kit once I get the engine in the race truck pulled apart and sent off to the machine shop so I know what size parts I need.

engnbldr sells his stuff directly on ebay too. I got mine that way. fits perfect, no noticeable noise or anything. doesn't break :p

if nothing else, call him up and ask if you can get just the guide but I'd throw the whole kit in. the chain has to slap to break the guide, there has to be something else wrong to have it slap.

There's nothin wrong that I can tell. The motor has a bunch of compression. It don't even make a full turn when starting an it fires off.
