ok, so basically i have this problem that i haven't looked into at all, mainly because i'm a panzy and don't like working in the rain (in washington right now, has been raining for like 3 days straight.) anyways, the truck will idle just fine, but as soon as i step on the gas it starts sputtering, like its only running on like 2 cyl. it started when the truck was a little hot in traffic (no airflow=almost overheat) so i'm sitting here scratching my head but not curious enough to go tinker with it. i think it might be the cap has moisture in it. what do you think?
Has the engine lite flashed or come on at all when it happens? If so flash the code. If its a electrical related issue that will point you in the right direction.
could be your o2 sensor cuz my truck did the same thing so i unpluged my o2sensor and it didnt do it no more then when i pluged it back it started again
the moister in the cap sounds right just because i had it happen to me in my daily when i washed out the engine bay it cranked up fine but as soon as i started to pull out it would sputter and die or just sputter id try that first because it isnt that much for a new cap and rotor or just take it off and dry it out
I have a 88 that started doing real close to the samething,. (OREGON COAST) gargles on start up and wants to overheat, after the pickup would warm up I would have to rev up to 4500 r.p.m. after that the P.U. would run perfect,. My first reaction was, Blowing Head Gasket, after researching the issue i found my thermostat wasn't opening/closing and dist cap moist, Now I'm on to the goofy sound it makes,.
