** mods, I wasn't sure where to put this question.

I was wondering about the legality of finding a Taco circa 2003 gen that is deemed a total loss by the insurance company. How about stripping that taco of it's cab and bed and transplanting a 1970s bed and cab? Assuming all mounts were moved and the bed and cab was made to fit the newer frame?

I was thinking I wanted that year engine, then I had the thought that I wanted that year wiring harness and what not....then it snow balled from there. I liked the 2.4 and 2.7 engines of that gen plus they had manual drives for them also. It will be a matter of sourcing an entire truck before it gets to the wreckers.

So is there anything in Cali laws that will stop me from getting a newer truck, slapping a hilux cab and bed and then calling the new truck a hilux?

Laws very state by state, here in wa you can repair a "total", get a state patrol inspection and in 6-8 weeks you get a branded title.

That's the thing, I don't want to "repair" the totaled car, I want make the totaled car's innards into a Hilux, as a 1970s hilux.

...Titan is catching the drift lol.
