So I've got two things on the steering column that broke on one particularly cold winter day: the turn signal no longer goes back to off after I complete a turn, so I have to remember to turn them off myself, and the detentes on the light switch no longer click, so the controller turns freely under my fingers, without coming to rest at any particular position. Can I fix these things without replacing the column? Have any of you ever gotten inside the columns before?

depends on what broke, if something did for fixing. its all plastic and fairly simple

if you take the wheel and column cover off you can get to the switch pretty easy. it comes off with minimal fuss.

from 79-83 just about all yota's used the same guts for the turn switch.

That's good, because I don't like to fuss about things like this. Do I have to take the wheel off to remove the column cover? Does it just snap off? What do I have to do?

    EDIT:

I should have just looked at it before I started typing, it really is very simple. But where is the turn signal switch itself located? Would replacing the entire switch assembly fix my problem, or is it possibly in the steering wheel itself?

Hi there. I was wondering if you manage to fix those problems on your vehicle. As you know, my my uncle is having a similar problem on his turn signal so he is planning to buy an aftermarket turn signal switch but we're not that quite sure if that would solve all the problems. Anyway, hoping you could update me on what did you do to fix it. Thanks in advance.
