Okay should I pay $250 for a guaranteed to pass smog or buy a new cat and o2 sensor that will cost more than $250 plus not guaranteed to pass smog and may end up dumping more money that I don't have?

    damn California smog emissions!

What part are u not passing? Visual?
    Can u share results?
Ask any honest smog tech they'll tell you it's not hard to pass our cars with the emissions setup from factory.
If they're failing you on purpose, they maybe just be telling you that becuase they want ur truck - they know what it's worth.

I failed on Hydrocarbon on both 15mph and 25mph. Everything else was good. I just had the head rebuilt and replaced out a lot of components. It seems to be coming down to the cat and o2 sensor. However, I'm not sure. The muffler guy told me he would most likely just pay the $250 and not have to worry about it for another 2 yrs.

I'm willing to drive up there depending on how much it's gonna cost. If it's gonna end up being more than $250 with gas and the smog then forget about it. I'd appreciate it though. Tags are up at the end of them month so asap. LMK. Thanks bro.

    This might work

So you tried smogging and failed. That means the retry should be free. Go down to your local Autozone and buy a new 02 sensor then retest it. If it passes you're good to go, if it fails, return the sensor and get your money back.

Refund+free retest= no money spent... Win win situation

If it does fail, Talk to Macrib/Gils89pickup/SDYOTA. I'm KNOW they know someone

    Good luck

did you fail by a landslide or did you fail just barely? i barely failed and adjusted the timing and then went back to pass. when i had my other truck it would fail by a land slide, and it was the Cat. the muffler place by my house sales/installs a new Cat for 175 and its the California spec Cat.

shop the cat, some places will have it cheaper.

Every smog tech always points at the o2 sensor. Make sure your driving it into the shop hot run it on the freeway before you go in. And why are they putting it on a Dino it might be a good idea to just try somewhere else.

Dang you guys got some messed up emmissions laws in Cali. I had to replace my cat but thats a federal thing for passing. Id say just replace everything then you wont have to worry about it EVER, not just another 2 years.

Wow 175 is a good price. The cheapest I was quoted so far was 290. If I end up getting a new cat and o2 I calculated around 400 therefor being more than just paying the tech. Timing is good so that's not the issue.
