Spit back thru the carb usually means a lean mixture... Here's a few possible problems that come to mind... Float level set too low? Pilot system blocked? Mixed primary and secondary jets? Accelerator pump not working? Bad fuel solenoid?

I was in the same situation as you with my stock carb, had it rebuilt and all adjusted and it still spit and spattered,it was really pissing me off and I finally had enough and had a brand new Redline Weber 32/36 put on. But the problems still were not over, the main fuel line running under the cab was blocked by more than 40%. I had a new fuel line put in along with a clear glass filter and never had a problem since, she runs like a champ been over 2 years now. A new carb is a little pricey, I think it was over $250.00 but worth every penny to have the fuel problems gone.

pilot system? never heard that term, what bout main fuel line and return line switched would that cause it to run lean at higher rmps?

did you remove the idle mixure plug and adjust it? A good adjustment would be one whole turn out from rough idle.:waytogo:
