i have a 1985 toyota pickup 22r with 101K miles. It seems now that whenever it starts to warm up(does not overheat) the whole motor jumps back and forth and sounds like a lawn mower with a muffler. It still runs but its hard to get it up to speed but still does. Perhaps its some bad gas, bad fuel filter, perhaps a knock or heat sensor. anyone have a little bit of an idea? only mod is K&N filter for the carb
timing was just set 1K miles ago, and the carb is fully tuned up. i checked all lines and nothing seems out of place. the speedometer needle is really jumpy now(unaccutate speeds)
i would check the timming again just to make sure and the needle thing i think is just of age mine does it sometimes and sometimes its perfect mine has 236xxx miles
u no what else check all ur spark plugs i had an issue with mine it jerked alot till my dad said check the spark plugs and i had spark plug number 3 craked and swapped it ant problem solved post up some pictures we love pictures on here
alright awesome, ill check those and just replace those tomorrow, i changed em out 2K miles ago tho, but a 10 dollar fix would be great. i just moved to Orlando, so ima get my stuff in order and snap some shots for sure.
yea that be great fix kewl kewl keep us up to date with the pictures and start a thread about ur truck
i did the spark plugs but no difference. i checked the fuel filter on the back and its dirty as sin, i attempted to change it out but instead had a gallon of fuel all over me and the ground so i stopped and called it a day. hopefully that is what the problem is. what should i do to stop the flow of gas to change the filter out?
Use vise grip clamps to pinch the line and then elevate the line so the fuel runs back to tank. Id do this on both lines since its carburated and the slight bit of fuel left in carb bowl can run out too. Once you hook lines up you might have to prime the system or use starter fluid or a little gas into carb to get it to fire. Best of luck to you Im not too big on carb engines but they all have the same concept of running. If you've re-timed, new plugs and change the filter out with no prevail then Im out of ideas as well. Sometimes the little things can make a huge difference so there are like a billion things that could be going on.
Try checking valve lash? sometimes it needs adjusting it's cake and only takes 30 min for our EZ 8V motors!
