So I went to get a smog check today and the guy wouldnt do it because he couldnt find the smog # for my header said he would have to fail me for the visual if he started. He also mention the slight miss I have (which has been for a while). So I wondering where do I begin to find the miss and correct it.

Here is my list of engine mods:
    -big bore throttle body
    -cam
    -adjustable cam gear
    -k&n filter
    -header

    Where do I start:shrug:

Seeing all these posts of nightmares of passing smog on this forum, I am glad my truck is too old to be tested in the State of Wisconsin

jump the diagnostics plug pull the code and see what codes it gives you.
when my old truck had a miss it turned out to be the injectors, they were clogging up.
and it was random as well.

Nope no numbers, but the kicker is I have had that header on it for about 8 years and have gone through 3 smog checks and not one place mentioned it until now. I will check and replace all that stuff and see if it helps. I have the timing set at 5 degrees (which I belive is stock). And I think I will take it to the place I have done my last checks at.

Too old, thats crazy. here in California they just make you do extra tests (I have to do some evap test thats $10 extra)

WHAT? thats nuts, the shop i take it to the guys are really cool and they let you watch what they are doing, and its a flat rate, no extra $$ or anything. it was 50 for the test, with cert. and if you fail its 25 for a retest.

Its alittle choppy, but you can hear a miss every once in a while.

I saw the guy hook up a hose to my gas tank and run a machine on it. I asked what dose that do and he said it pressurizes the gas tank to see if the evap is working correctly. its prob inc. in the price of 50 with certification.

are they advertising a 19.99 or 29.99 for a smog check? its prob why they are charging you extra.
