    Hey,

New to the site. I came here looking for information about my 89 pickup i have. This is my second toyota, first was a 96. I was looking for some help with the dashboard guages... nothing works at all, no spedo, tach, gas, oil, temp, not even the odometer. The left blinker and right blinker do though. :) So maybe this is the wrong place to post, if so let me know so i can repost elsewhere. Thanks!

First off welcome aboard the train.:p Have you pulkled out the speedo yet? you should check the back and make sure nothing is unplug and the bulbs aint burnt. I dont know much about that or encountered that before so this is a first for me. I do know if im not mistaken there is a relay for that it could also be that.

Just give it time till other members log on im sure someone has the answers you need.

    Good Luck.

    Welcome to the site!

First thing I would check would be the fuse, but after that I would do what grounds said and pull it out and make sure nothing came unplugged.

    Solved It

I took the dash out yesterday. The last owner had glued new white gauge backgrounds to the old ones. When i pulled those off i noticed the wire that plugs in for the speedo was disconnected. Plugged it back in, problem solved. But i think they rolled back the miles on it also... I went to Jiffy Lube, and the license plate matched up to a guy who serviced it there every few months, Jiffy Lube's records showed 220k miles, my ODO reads 123k! Ha ha, at least I know what the actual mileage is now, and I didn't buy it for mileage anyway. Thanks for the suggestions, I have fuses laying around for a rainy day now.

Just an update... I've torn out all the old useless wiring for a half installed alarm, and old stereo. Replaced the light inside the vent sliders so I can see where my heater switch is :) Cleaned out the back, threw a seat cover on it. Changed all the fluids... Apparently there is a small oil leak, and the rear diff is leaking a little bit, but they dont know why... By the way Im learning as I go this is a project truck for me, but I dont know much (yet) about working on it. Tore out some moldy carpet padding, put down new floor mats. New radiator cap, jiffy lube serviced the gearbox, whatever that means. Other things I did myself... changed the air filter oil filter and fuel filter, ran some cleaner through the tank.

Im going to a place called U-pull it today to pick up as much replacement trim and other stuff as I can. They have a bunch of old cars and you just take what you need. I need some parts of the dash that are broken, some floor trim along the door, front right light and grill are busted and could use a replacement, I need to get a new windshield eventually, good thing I work at a glass shop, shouldnt be too hard :) I also wanted to find some wheel well covers, i think they are called mud covers for the inside so you cant see right through the body, becuase those are missing.

Other plans for the truck, I dont really know yet. But I will take a picture soon and post it for anyone who is interested. Its a 22R motor I guess, 4 sp manual.

Happy to hear you figured it out. Sounds like you are learning a lot and not afraid to tear into things, that is the best way to learn. ;)
