i was wanting to do a simple bag set up and i have never done it. what lowering parts would i for sure need? is there any welding and for what? not to worried about laying the frame down up front so what should i do about the torsion bars? could some one give me some good advice please.
I'm not sure any company makes a bolt on kit for the Toyota. Torsion bars will be taken out an thrown away. Lower an upper bag brackets welded in. I'm sure if you use search you'll find something
yep torsions will go. you'll need: Torsion Front Airbag Brackets | suicidedoors.com lots of companies sell em, so you can shop for the best price. i like suicidedoors because they make really nice stuff, but shipping times lately have been ridiculous.. Air lifts air bags, hot rod front suspension, Lambo Door kits, shaved door handle kits, Train horns ^^ they used to make a bolt on kit for toyota's, but their site is hard to navigate lol they might still sell em.. might not. the kit worked fine, but lift was kind of limited.
since the front is lowered by the torsion bars and they have to come out, should i buy drop spindles to keep the drop? do i have to relocate the shocks? besides welding the bag brackets is there going be any other cutting or welding? do i need to do a ball joint flip? if anyone could give me a good rundown so i have a good understanding when i go for it i would greatly appreciate it.
I have an 87 as well. I plan to get the front bagged first so if i come up with the funds to buy that bracket kit ill let you know how bad i fail at putting it in. Hopefully you wont do the same. haha
If its dropped and ur guna bag it, the ride height is guna be adjustable. U wouldnt need spindles to "keep the drop" cuz ur guna be able to raise and lower it. Spindles will help it with the camber. And a BJ flip isnt necessary but u can do it if u want
Where the shock is now there's a "hump" I guess you could say tht connects to the crossmember you will have to cut tht out and plate it. If you plan on running 18s you go either a little below or at the top can remember which one and if 20's I believe it's a quarter of an inch above it. Go to myspace and check out cando specialties they have a step by step on a project they did it was a 94 but same basic concept
You should use dropped spindles as keeps the factory geometry correct. The torsion bars are removed & bag plates are welded to both the frame & lower a-arm. You need to cut & plate the frame where the bag mounts go ,also add gussets to the bag plate. The front struts are a problem ( in the way) ,but these are there to keep the stock lower a-arm from moving! So if removed you need to neither install a after market lower a-arm or rework the stock one. I recommend CanDo's arms. The shocks if you run them( I recommend you do),have to be relocated. All this is a lot of work & the welding should be done with a 220 welder & correctly. This is your suspension,& controls your vehicle!!
