Ok, how do we determine what our vehicles are worth? Not to us, but to someone else. I've had a couple people ask over the last few months if I would sell, but I've not come up with a price that I would part with it for. I haven't actually considered it really. If I sell, it would be to get another project truck. Oh, and there are a few things I want to finish, but how finished would it have to be?
It's tough to value it...you never get back what you put in. Usually, not even 1/2. For the record, I regret selling every minitruck I have ever had.
sadly alot of people let bagged trucks go for about wat they put into it for the air ride. Hard to put a price on your work. Id say use the KBB value and then some. From the looks of ur truck $5000 wouldnt be a bad start point.
I'd have to say 5000$ tops. There's featured yotas going for 7000 fully done. Sux but once you bag your truck your not getting anything close to what you put into it like said before. Thts why I don't plan on sellin my truck. Even tho my buddy sold his s10 bagged on 18s and primered for 8000. I guess it depends on who you sell it too
Yeah, that's all kinda what I've decided. To the right buyer, I could make bank, although that's unlikely. I searched Craigslist last night and found a couple hacked beaters listed for $4000 and a "show quality" looking '86 Mazda for $6000. I think in order to sell it though, I'd need to finish the sheet metal to at least get it to a finished look.
There is always the issue of not wanting to buy someone elses truck. I think that also narrows the market for the seller. While I love your truck and would like mine to be as nice eventually, I would not buy it as I am of the opinion that a minitruck is built, not bought. Especially when you consider showing it. It would suck to have someone say "oh that was <insert other dudes name here> truck wasn't it?" Also as you obviously know, building them is the most fun part as you are considering selling for another project. I have the problem that I keep buying new toys without parting with others and I am running out of room.
When it comes down to anything custom there is no longer value to the majority populous. The item now only has value to the owner and to the minority of people who understand and have been there done that or the minority of people with money to blow on whatever. I sold a few years back a show quality Impala, when I put it up for sale people were offering me pennies on the dollar of what was put into it, some offered me book value and then the person who bought it as merely someone who thought it was the coolest thing in the world and didnt care about the price. When making the decision to sell something I dont think I would care about what its worth just have patience in realizing it might take a while to find the person who wants to pay for it. I value my truck very highly since I work hard to save money to do things to it. I work hard on the truck itself which takes my highly valued FREE time to work on. Id say If i were to decide to ever sell my truck again I would ask an amount most would scoff at. Why??? Thats my time, money, blood, sweat, and tears its worth every penny
the way i see it is everything has a price. what it is worth by individual is based on what offer you could say " yea, ill sell it for that much". ive had people offer me money for the truck when i didnt wanna sell..... none of those offers ever gave me the feeling where i would have said "yea, sure, ill take it" so it all depends on you. another rule of thumb i go by is that no matter what amount of money you have invested in the truck (parts, repairs, etc.) its usually devaluated once done by at the minimal half of your cost. example........ i paid $500 for a truck, spent 4000. the truck in its average craigslist worth about 1500.... that 4000 now turns into 2000 at best..... truck is "sellable" for around 3000.........
There are lots of variables too...I paid $3500 for my bone stock 94 standard cab but it only had 33k original miles on it when it was 15 years old. To me, it was perfect as the plan was for it to not be a daily driver. In 2 years I have managed to bring it to 35k miles.
these trucks are not worth anything. I posted my 92 on craigslist, nothing wrong with the truck and the highest offer I got was 850 and thats what I sold for, I needed the money.. 80% of the people buying these trucks send them to haiti because thats all they have over there.. they either sell them to rich people, or they get turned into taxis over there.. It pisses me off all these people on craigslist post "will buy old pickups running or not title or not.." because every single one they buy is one less that I can either buy or pull parts from... these trucks will dissapear soon enough...
^+1 Ive heard that I can drive south of the border, and sell my beat up POS for 3G's in a heartbeat. Would I want to? No. A truck is a tool after all. Anyone who has half a brain knows not to sell tools that make you money. And mine has. Ive often wondered if I ever got my truck totalled by another driver (and survived)... How does the insurance company value such a customized object that quite literally is a family heirloom? Not even blue book value...
The way I understand the law, if you are not at fault, the other driver's insurance is required (unless you sign away your rights, settling) to give you replacement cost. And to get everything back to at least as good of shape as it was before the wreck. Wheels and all. After all, you didn't hit you.
+1 Ive been working in body shops since I was 14 and there are many loop holes you can find in insurance policys
I,ve had quite a few offers over the years to sell my 76, never could bring myself to do it even though the offers were good, but considering the time and work and money it took to build it, the offers didn't sound nearly as tempting. I had mine appraised by a custom/show car appraiser and have them insured for that amount as a collector car and they increase every 6 months by a small percentage.
I plan to insure mine with one of the collector car insurance companies like Hagerty or Grundy once my truck hits the minimum age they require (20 years?). They cover for a pre-defined value and are usually cheaper than insuring it with the consumer car insurance companies.
I know i guy who got rear-ended in his fully custom chopped completely airbrushed and shaved 1999 Toyota Tacoma xtra-cab MiniTruckin cover truck, and MiniTruckin truck of the year. He had it appraised for and wound up getting $47,000. He stated his case to the other person's insurance company, and sent them the quote to repair and repaint back to its prior condition, with 300+ hours of airbrushing, along with a copy of that MiniTruckin magazine that he was in/on. They never argued. They totaled it. And he was able to buy it back before the title got the salvage on it. It took 3 weeks, and he had a check in his mailbox. Truck's name was DLOWEST. Here's the spread. Custom 1999 Toyota Tacoma - Cover Truck - Mini Truckin' Magazine
i plan on having my hilux appraised once completed and it seems that guys overseas are willing to pay what it costs to build a truck more then people here. but thats usually for something hard to find there, like fullsize american vehicles lol
