Hey everyone. here is my 79. i have had it for about 3 years. planing on terring it down an building a track truck out of it, do lots of time attack racing, with my 80 celica, but would like to try a truck.:). The trailor is my old 79 long bed, had a little over 480,000mi on her when it all whent bad. so made it into a matching trailer, for my new one. I go to a few black powder meets. and this way i can hall all ov my gear in backwoods coolness:). will paint the trailor this summer also, and drop it along with the truck, Building a 12to 1 comp. race engine for the truck this spring. I am a blacksmith and run a Napa store. so i get to cheat a little on building things fast. hopfully i will get new pics up this spring. Later:verdict_in: Oh by the way, how do you put pics on here again?

Thanks guys. I have lots of 79-80 celica parts, But am also a Big Buick Fan. So am leaning twards a 20r or a Buick 215CI ALL ALUMINUM V8. bUT FOR COST RETRANTS will probably go with an old 21ru that i have had for quite ome time. will go with either a 20r or 30over 22rbore. Then a 20r head and lots of good stuff. mabe even a supercharger. I would like some wheels off of a TSI. or see if bmw wheels would fit. Or mabe just some nice "salt flat rims". But at any route, would like imput on using the torsion bar set up for racing. Have some Dodge friends that have used torsion in cars for years, Just have never done it on a Toyota truck before. But i like a good challange.:waytogo::brickknock: 22R engine.jpg

I gots no truck, for now
if you are going to build a race motor might i suggest a dual timing chain 22r block with a 20R head. Then bore the 22r .30 over with high comp pistons, over size the 20R valves, slap in a cam to match driving style and run duel side drafts...viola screamer motor for the cheapz ( well sorta cheaps... )

Cool project man.

I auto X'd mine once, and Ive got a pointer or two.

Swap to a quick ratio R&P or get a multiplier for the stock box. You cant steer it fast enough.

Get the spring rate up.

And get front and rear sway bar.

Is there a way to raise the spring rate in the front, with out raising the truck.
Am i corect in saying that a supra or cressida rear third member, is the same as my truck. I have a cressida member with limited slip, would like to use it if i could.

First off you'll need to identify the axle in your own truck.

If it's an F-code axle it should have a 7.5" Crown wheel.
If it's a G-code then the crown wheel is an 8".

This axle code is listed on the chassis plate.

From my experience, the Cressida diff uses a 7.5" crown wheel.

If the differentials are both F code & of a similar ratio, they are interchangable.

You can work out the ratios from the Axle Code on your chassis plate or by counting the number of pinion revolutions required to complete one full crownwheel revolution.

As regards the front spring rate, I managed to source thicker up-rated torsion bars for my '97 truck from a company in Australia. I can't recall their name but if I find it in my emails I'll post here.

These have dramatically increased the front spring rate and the truck doesn't sit any higher.
If I were to tighten them all the way in (as the originals had been) the truck wouldn't move off the upper bump stops at all.

BMW 5-lug bolt pattern is generally 5x120(or120.7?) like camaro/corvette one is 120 one is 120.7, dont remember which but close enough to exchange between them.. big bolt pattern. we are 5x114.3 little guys, but most new OEM stuff is that size now. lot's of new honda, mazda, toyota stuff

you can put a 2wd 5 speed transmission in a 4wd truck, but transmissions themselves are different..(not just the tail housing) the crossmember and driveshafts are different... clutch, brakes, etc. are all the same/ interchangeable.. some of the internals might be interchangeable( i have no idea).. marlin is the toyota trans/transfer case source for internal stuff.. but as far as sticking 2wd trans in 4wd truck it will bolt up to the motor, but crossmember and driveshaft will be different, either need custom or swapped out. and will not be able to be 4wd unless you bought a divorced transfercase adapter, but better just to get a 4wd trans/transfer case if you want 4wd...

what are you looking to do with the 81 if you get it? do you want 4x4 or 2wd? is the trans bad or something?

RN48L-MDA and 541KJ41G07252 Is this a version of a W50 or aW55-56-57? if the rest of my info is correct, I also read that the crown ratio is a 8in with 3.90 and no lsd. The "G072" part of that is the trans code. G code is the 8", 07 is 3.90, 2 is non-lsd. So yes, you read it right. You'll want something thats "G**3" for it to be LSD. Just find a ratio you like.
