I bought a pair of seats on sunday and am going to put them in tomorrow but i have one question. First off I got a set of black buckets out of a 2002 Eclipse and the rails are flat. I want to just notch the raised part of the floor where the old seat mounted so I can mount the brackets flat without bending them up. My question is if the floor is double plated (aka 2 pieces of sheet metal one on top of the other)? My plan, If it is double plated, is to cut the top piece to use as a guide in order to flatten that spot without cutting completely through the floor to protect the stock corrosion protection And on another note....At this time I do NOT have access to a welder.
Yah its do-able. My 91 was cut they just slotted both sides and bent the metal down. Wish they hadnt because I ended up putting 4 runner seats in it and they would have bolted directly in if the front floor wasnt cut and bent. Like I said though they just cut down to floor and bent the metal back to make the new bolt holes. Did not cut through the actual floor
thanks euro, thats what i was hoping to hear Oh and in case anyone is wondering the seats cost me $64 for the pair and I will add pics to my build thread when its all done!!
I would be hesitant to chop up the floor...as eurofreak said, you may find some seats later on and regret the chop-job...is it possible to shim the seats up w/washers on the bolts or something else? I need to get some seats as well...my bench sagged to the floor on driver's side when i got the truck...i pulled the seat, flipped it over and wedged a transfer case skid-plate off a Chevy 1500 inside the springs...uncomfortable as hell, but at least i can sit up straight...my son has a set of Ford power bucket seats in my garage,i may see if they fit,if i can get to the garage through all the snow.
Single sheet reinforced around seat and seat belt mounts. It's just steel hack it apart you can weld it back later.
