I just received my white face gauges for my 93 pickup. Yesterday I decided to put on the white face gauges on.

    Warning:
    1. disconnect the battery before attempting to install any electronics in your vehicle.
    2. check your dashboard and plastic covering on the gauges to make sure you know where everything goes.

    1. remove the screws of the upper dashboard
    (don't have picture)

    2. take out the whole set of dashboard and disconnect the wire harness on the gauge cluster.

    3. remove the transparent plastic gauge cover

    4. Remove any screws holding the original dash faces, some models don't have screws.

    5. very carefully slide in the new luminous dial face onto the surface of the original gauges. don't remove the gauge needles.
NOTE: you may need to notch out a small area on the cluster for the tab of the tab of the new faces. Do not bend the wire tab this may cause the gauge to short out.

    part 2

    6. using the original guage screws, carefully screw them down, being careful not to overtighten them.

(note: on the temp guage and fuel guage, it don't have screws. I had to use double side tape and regular tape (to tape the edges) to hold it in place)

    7. carefully re-attach the transparent plastic guage cover.

    8. Connect the wires to the headlight power supply (red-positive, black-negative)
    (I haven't done it yet)

    9. Connect the wires of the gauges to the inverter (black box)
    (I haven't done it yet)

    10. Wire tie the black box up behind the dashboard, find a suitable location for the switch and mount it (usually the lower dash). Assemble the dashboard in the reverse order (as you took it apart).
    (I haven't done it yet)

    11. Splice the positive (red) wire from the new gauge, into the positive wire of the parking lights. This will make the gauges come on w/ the parking lights. Splice the ground wire (black) to the ground wire on the parking light or attach it to the nearest grounding point.
    (I haven't done it yet)

    I like, nice job . . .

. . . I agree to, very nice writeup ! Also, did you leave your stock dash bulbs in or did you remove them ? Just asking because I took mine out on my 87' when I did mine ! I linked a picture below for the non-tach 1984 - 1988 models that I installed on mine. Dont mean to attach on or steal your thread, just what everyone to know . . .

    pull em' out

Oh yes, you can see the elctroluminescent gauges just fine, they are plenty bright and they render the stock dash bulbs obsolete. I kinda compared it to lighting the street lights when the sun is out  . You dont have to pull them, but, they are useless after you get the wires hooked up. Also, did you get the switch with yours or did you get the " wire-in " kit? " Pull them suckers out and throw em' in the toolbox ! "

those are nice. not really my style. how many lights are behind the guage? im going to make a set of quages using photoshop, if i can get a hold of the program. anyone know where i can get a free copy? i had it on my desktop and somehow the motherboard fired. lost everything.
anyways, you can make a set using a stock pair. scan them into your computer. and use photshop to make another set. it take a very long time. figured it would be something that i work on at school or something. here's some pics of the ones i made in my ranger a few years ago.

    the light. . . .

. . . the lightbulbs for the dash illumination, take them out and put them away in the toolbox. You have the new gauges that light up and take care of the illumination, so having the bulbs still inside does little if anything to light up those instruments. You can tell which ones are for dash illumination by having the dash assembly plugged in but not installed and then turn on the parklights, those bulbs that light up, will no longer be needed in my opinion.

what does this thingy do? as seen in the first post there are some cable things that clip onto the gauges...is that what makes them light up? if the original greeny coloured bulbs are left in there then doesnt that meanu'll be able to see the green through the blue and red of the new instruments?

but do you have to do anything to change it from the green glow to the blue and red? or is that what that pic is of? is that what makes it change colour?

also if you know your dash stuff....how would i got about wiring up a tacho? does anyone else have one? where have you mounted it?
