well to start i apologise for the millionth time you need to answer these threads, but the basic question here is how do i lower my hilux?

do you call them hiluxes? oh well you know what i mean

ok, ive looked all through these forums and gathereds a page or 2 of info, when i went to my local suspension guy he said all you can do is wind down the torsion bars in the front and put lowering blocks in the back, but he said i'd prolly only get it an inch lower

after reading your threads i see u've taken the (sh!t i cant remember that they are called....it was in my head a second ago)....LEAVES! thats it....you took a leaf or 2 outta the back and then but the lowering blocks in. - ok heres afew quotes.....

oh and i just wanna do a static drop

"Ok...here is what Ive got done to the front. Im running a set of DJM 3-inch lower control arms with drop shocks & "reset" torsion bars. Basically I turned the torsion bars all the way down, took the arms off & reset them higher. That way when you put the bolts back in & turn them up the arms sit above the crossmember & you dont tear them up. As for the rear Ive got 4-inch angle blocks, mono-leaf, Gabriel airshocks & a small c-notch! My rims are 17x7"
is this for airbags? mono leaf....does that mean you only got one leaf in there? and thats a 4 inch lowering block in there? this leads me to believe its a static drop

"So i was wondering.. i have 3in blocks on the back of my 93 and 2in spindles on the front. I still wanna drop the back another inch or two and was wondering what another means of droppinf the back is without going to 4 in blocks? If i remove a leaf from the pack what one and how much will it drop it? thx guys"
"you could always buy drop leafs and not have to worry about spring failure, removing leafs may never cause a problem, but in the event it did it would really suck"

what are spindles? are they for static drops? im kinda thinking in the rear (just based on what ive read) that i could put a 4 inch block in the rear - or take a leaf out - and if i only put a 2 inch lowering block in it would kinda be the same result....trueish?
    dropleafs?

i got afew more but i miight just leave it at that for now....

one more thing....i have no idea what the torsion bar looks like and where i am best to access it from....can someone please help

told ya it was a noob lowering question -god i hate the word noob

you don't need to use the word noob, you can always say you're new to the scene.

anways, spindles can be used for static. its the thing that controls the front wheel, not the arms, but the thing that lets the brake disc and wheel bolt up to.. etc etc...

I'm going for a static drop too. you can pull the leafs in the rear and maybe go for a 2 or 3 inch drop block. notcing the frame can always be done to let more travel happen

    welcome

Yeah Lowering these trucks is sooooo easy! 3 things you can do in the front: Drop Spindles, Lowering Control Arms, and to fine tune your drop Play with the torsion bars.

In the back there are lots of ways too. 2,3 or 4" Drop Blocks. Remove leaf springs from the pack. Or buy a drop leaf. You can also get shackle mount kits that will drop it too.

Here is what a drop spindle looks like:

Basically it is your whole steering knuckle. It bolts to your upper and lower ball joint, connects to your outer tie rod end and like cinNAMmon said its what all your brake hardware bolts onto.

wow any my suspension guy said there was basically nothing he could do - so lowering the front, what would you guys say the best way to do it is?

somewhere on here someone said wind the torsion bars up, then do something - but i cant remember what....how much work is it? as in hours...what do these parts cost about?

There are so many different ways to lower Toyota trucks...you can do it the simple/cheap way or go all out & spend a ton of money!! I lowered my 91 by installing DJM 3-inch lower control arms in the front & turning "down" the torsion bars. Turning down the torsion bars in easy to do, but you need to make sure that you remove one of the two nuts that are on the bolts the run through the torsion bar brackets. Anyway...you can also go with spindles & they do the same as control arms. As for the rear you can simply remove a leaf or two & install 3 or 4-inch drop blocks. If its going to driven daily then I would take out the center leafspring-leaving the main spring & overload spring-thats the short fat one & install a set of 3-inch blocks. If it wasnt dark here in the states Id go out & take pics of the front for you, but Ill do it tomorrow & post some pics on how my setup in the front/rear looks. Oh & one last thing...there is no such thing as a stupid question...there are on the other hand stupid answers. So dont be afraid to ask when you get confused about something...me & the other members will help!! :)

Totally agree with SMC, No stupid questions, just some stupid answers from people that dont really know. I still have people asking me if my airbags are for the hydraulics! I try to fill em in, but a person can only go so far. Thats what is nice about this site and others like it. YOu got knowledgable people that have either done the work on their rides or have had it done or know of someone and combining all these people together, some great things come outta it. Alote of rides on this site were built from members knowledge and knowhow and passed along down the chain to the owner or builder. My truck being one of those, I got great help and knowledge from good people from toyotaminis.com & yotascene.com and put everything together with my knowhow and skill. Help and knowledge is a powerfull thing . . .

Ok...I snapped a few pics of my front suspension this afternoon between work
& school. Sorry for the low quality, but it was getting late & I wanted to post something to try & help out.

Ok...in these first 2 pics youll see my upper control arms & the simple mod of "flipping" the ball joints. All you do is unbolt the balljoint assembly that is orginally mounted on the bottom of the upper & lower control arms then you just bolt them back on, but you place them on the top of the upper & lower control arm...youll see how its done from the pics. Its a simple thing to do that will give you about an 1-inch more drop in the front.

Here are 2 pics of my DJM 3-inch drop lower control arms. As you can see they look totally different than the factory units. Youll get a 3-incn drop by just bolting these on & your still able to use your factory torsion bars as well.

In these next 2 pics youll see the actual torsion bar arm & in the 3rd youll see
the torsion bar bolt that runs up thrpugh the arms itself. In order to lower the front youll need to remove one of the two nuts that are on the bolt & just simple turn the bolts making sure that your losening the bolt so the truck will go lower!! Oh & be sure to jack the truck up & get the wheels off the ground so you wont have pressure on the front suspension!!

*Again Im sorry for the low quality pics & if any of you have any more questions Ill do my best to try & help.

How does that flipping affect the alignment and the way the truck handles?

Did you also remove the bump stops?

I just had the toe set on my truck so flipping the ball joints dont hurt your alignment or make it handle any different & the ride is fine.
