I have the 3pulley crankshaft harmonic balancer thing. And I found out today that the pulley for the alternator and water pump has loosened. Literally. I don't know what happened, but it's not next to the other ones. You can see how that inner pulley has separated from the rest. I took off the P/S so I can get some access.
Never mind, I fixed it. Took it off and hammered it flat with 2x4, metal square tubing, and some elbow grease and time.
That's not fixed bro... You have to replace it! The rubber dampening has let loose and it will just slip again. I'm betting your timing mark is also off...
replace it asap or it's gonna tear up the end of the crank and your going to be out some serious time and money. Ask me how i know.
its best to just change it out not only can it mess your internals up but when it happened to me it shredded the belt then i was left on the side of the road. i got mine from autozone and i think it was 1 piece. didnt take too long at all.
Where would I order this part, for how much, with shipping, and what's the name of it? I can't find the part on RockAuto.
Its a harmonic balancer i believe. It happened to me before. Its like rubber holding all 3 pullies together. Over time the rubber corodes and breaks and ****. My belt used to squeal like a mf and it was becuase it seperated and was wobbling around. Also when you change it, we used some special tool to keep the pully from spinning without damaging it. Forget what it was called. You can probably use rope or soemthing though, just giving you warning.
the harmonic balancer is the part that falls in between the pulley assembly and the motor. like a little dish type of deal. as far as i know, thats what it looks like to me.
in rock auto it's in the engine section under harmonic balancer....at least for my 91. dorman 594073: $64.79. ATP 102084: $95.79
