If you want more of a drop then the static drop whats next? Do you need to C-notch it or will just bags work? How tough is bagging the 89 to 94 pickup? What is the estimated cost and work to do it?
Wow that's a good Question I bet Seth could give you a ball park number for parts and material, the Labor is the most intensive Part. if you shop around and not get in a hurry you might find people on Craigslist that have stuff for sale that they never used. That's what I did, I think I might have $500 invested so far. I'm going with an EDC so it only cost me $20... ($13 for compressor at Pull a Part- $3 for Grease - about $4 in a belt and a 1/4 screw plug) I got the switches, 2 bags, wires, fittings, lines, water separator, check valve on CL for $150 a friend that worked at Les swab's gave me a box of misc bags and brackets for free, another friend Gave me a trailer load of 2x4x5/8 Steel, and I scavenged sheet mettle from Grandpas, junk yard, and and so the Saga continues... If you have friends that build and fabricate you can trade Labor with...you can get your whole truck done for probably less that 2 K
Wow! that is pretty spendy. So I am guessing to get it laid out a C-notch and bags are a must. Is it possible to C-notch but not bag it and get it pretty close to laid out? I really like the ride height of your 76 hilux dogfather. I am looking to drop mine that far on a budget.
in the picture in my signiture, I'm running 17's and We removed the front coils, (Free) cut one bump stop off the front (Free) Removed the rear spring all but one, and addedd 3" Blocks $33. You get used to the ride. Bumpy roads are hella rough.. Another good Question is to ask one of these fella's How much they paied to have their trucks Bagged for them... Like Take it to Twisted Minis (Seth Whom does Awsome work) and How much did they pay to have their truck Bagged... I'm Cheep, I like to do a bunch myself. I might be wrong but if you shop around and buy a kit that has compressors bags 4 link ect your most likely gonna spend $1200 or more..
I agree with ^ I bought my truck fully bagged for a really cheap price and now I'm spending money on things the previous owner or owners did. This is my first bagged truck so I jumped on it without really looking at the setup. So take your time and do it right the first time! Good luck on whatever you end up doing!
Ok dogfather i took a look at your build again and you did a body drop to get more drop out of a static. I am not that interested in bags but i am interesting it more of a drop. I dont think i will do more of a drop for now, i plan on selling my house and my other toyota so me and my wife can go back to school. My 93 will then become my daily driver. When i finish school i will probably do a body drop and bags.
Also i did find a bagged truck for sell when i bought mine but i figured the work was probably not done right so i passed it up. Thanks guys for your input and help. I will be coming to you when i do decide to bag and body drop. I have much more work ahead of that right now.
You could notch the rear to get it lower and I forget if had bought drop spindles you can also flip the ball joints. This would make for a pretty good static drop. I priced an extensive list of product to insure I wouldn't have to redo anything for my excab and it was bout $2500 said and done built ready to rock however there are full kits including notch and 4 link for $1500 if you look hard enough. Never buy used crap except switches and tanks
Go look through "Macawilli" build thread. He has like a 9x single cab i believe. Before he had a 6/6 drop. Then decided to bag it. How low are you right now? You can notch the rear, de arch leafs, lowering block, LCA, Spindles, torsion, bj flip, relocate the front shocks, etc
I havent done a drop yet i am waiting on a bonus check and some weather above freezing. I plan on drop spindles, ball joint flip, a inch or two torsion drop, 3 or 4 inch drop blocks and remove the middle leaf spring. I do want to get drop springs but that is another time when i have some more money. The 2 things i am worried about is notching the rear and relocating the shocks. I have done very little welding experience am i am afraid i will mess everything up.
Sounds good. Going come out nice. Just get low profile/chopped bumpstops. That should be fine. You going be close to hitting and might bottom out on huge dips but if you get good shocks should be fine. I would say if you go lower then you should notch. You can always notch but figure get your most money worth. And go to the pick and pull and find a extra set of leafs and have a machine shop dearch them for you. Should come out cheaper and you can get more drop. My old leaves were dearched 4". Then i just put a small block.
What I did was bought some monroe air shocks. Can't remember the model number on them. But they were really short in length. Then I made a day of it at a buddy's house. We removed the box. Cut notches in above the axle and welded some thick metal in. Hit it with a grinder to make it look nice. Then we grabbed a torch and started to heat up the leaf springs while my other friends jumped up and down on my truck lol. Eventually the shocks fit but I think I could have dropped it even more lol. I also was running 3 inch blocks so I had a tucking tire when I was done. My truck is an extra cab and I threw in a 4x4 driveshaft with a double cardan u joint and slip spline. If you could figure out what driveshaft angles you need (not sure about single cab) then you could do all that in one day easy.
4" blocks and a pulled middle leaf will pretty much set the frame on the axle (at least close enough that it will hammer low profile bump stops a lot).
Thanks for all the great ideas, I will look into everything and see what i can pull off. I want to avoid doing too much fabbing to keep the frame and body stock incase i want to sell it. If i decide to keep it Then body drop and notching will be in the works.
Bags can get expensive. But if you spend money on quality parts the first time you won't need to buy / replace them for along time. I bought a brand new kit off a guy in SC for 1200 shipping was 300 so I paid 1500. Then I bought 4 more valves for FBSS for almost 300 new. I didn't need to but I bought cando control arms tht were almost 900. I basically wanted everything done the way I wanted the first time so I didn't have to go an change things later. But now I'm gonna go with a IRS rear setup so I'll end up spending more. It's all on what you wanna spend and if you plan on keeping it for awhile. I probably won't sell this truck cause I've spent so much already I would never get what I put into it. But I did all the fab work myself so I didn't have to pay someone my $$ when I have the skills to do it. My old yota was slammed on 17s I couldn't go over speed bumps at any angles
Yes i want the drop but want to avoid bags mostly because of the money. I think dropping is an addiction. I just want to go lower and lower and lower. Slamming it without bags puts a lot of restrictions on your truck.
You'll end up baggin it haha. But ya you can get some pretty nice drop outta these trucks. Crank the torsions bj flip drop spindles lots of things and alot of members have done these
Haha I have all of the how to threads for ball joint flips and torsion drops saved to my favorites. All i am waiting on is my bonus to come in and i will do the entire drop all at once.
