Doing some axle clean up. I never liked the stock Toyota breathers much, and the welds are, well, factory. So I cut it out and machined a tapered plug that indexes in the hole I cut. Will get tapped to 1/8" NPT and run a standard axle breather, or possibly a filter. Also going is the axle fill plug, in favor of a flush one.
Thanks man! Okay this is totally off subject, but I was approached with an idea, that spawned a few of my own. This is close to something I have wanted to do for a while, done with budget parts. Customer asked me to illustrate my ideas so he could see what was going on in my head. So I did a little research and this is what I came up with. Rear engine LWB pickup, with IRS, gas tank up front, etc. No idea if this will even go anywhere, but I am essentially "pitching" the project tomorrow. It looks a little like an indy car from above to me.
^ pretty much you got the idea. Should be short and sweet. I see you're thinking of going Transmission straight to the diff, I like! I see alot of potential in this, good luck if you guys push through!
Cool! I've seen something like this before years back. I remember seeing a toyota pickup 10~12 years ago at the Pomona Swapmeet. The only difference is he was running an air cooled flat 4 VW motor.
Ya basically transmission output mated directly to an IRS diff. I've wanted to do something similar for a while, but with Audi stuff and a short wheel base. This would be funky for sure, but I think very fun to play with.
MM frame is lookin good! back when i had a dime i wanted to mount a 32v caddi northstar setup in the back. not sure how well it would have fit, but i thought it'd be cool lol
That would have been cool, there is a good aftermarket for those motors. I want kind of a hot rod/indy car look when I get into mine. So I figured out how to illustrate my shifter idea. Very purpose built, not trying to be pretty.
Got the bungs welded into the rear axle for Chad's truck. Started putting together the sheet metal lower links, and got the fish plates on the rear of the frame.
awesome truck man i have 2 of them one is a mitsu with static drop on z71s and the other is d50 bagged laying crossmember...
