Located in the, at least currently, snowy south east corner of the state of Vermont. I recently picked up my first Toyota Hilux, a 1974 short bed in the original green. This little guy has 70K on the original R18 motor. The last owner was a older lass that was nice enough to keep this beauty garage stored for the last 36 years. You know the story, she used it on Sundays to go to the dump and oil under coated her ever fall. Nope no pictures as she is currently living under a foot and a half of snow waiting to be put in the warehouse for the rest of winter. Few minor problems such as front brakes, the oil pan has rusted and sprung a leak but al and all she should be no problem getting up and running for spring… so in Vermont that means June. I have spent the last 15 years working on aircooled VWs and the last couple of years running a small blog that covers vintage performance parts/kits/people of the were used on the early 25hp and 36hp motors ** The Old Speed Shack ** Currently i’m searching for a good, comprehensive history of the Hilux models. I was able find the Wikipedia entry though I’m not willing to call that comprehensive. Books, websites or oral history would be fine by me. I’m also looking for information on parts suppliers other than the local dealership. From my general searches there do not appear to be many places that cater to these old trucks. Thanks for taking the time to read this intro and if you are in the Northeast feel free to stop by for a cup of joe. **Christopher C. Purvis** Boonies
finally a score for the east coast'ers. thought all those old trucks were on the west side of the rockys.
Sorry to inform you but there is no real reading on toyota other then the net here on forums and what not. There was a toyota performance book back when but it only covered 78,79?+ hilux's and mostly 4x4's. That and corolla's, celica's and the like. Good luck finding body parts. Alot of info here! I'm not to knowlegeable about the hilux's but pretty good with the corolla's. Really love the vdubs! Here in hawaii single/double cabs are really popular. GL and welcome! mike
Thanks for the warm welcome guys and I'll get some pictures up once we dig her out. Yeah its sad there is not more information on these little trucks but then again half the fun is in the research! I'm sure there are plenty of sales brochures, ads, car and driver reviews, and factory information out there. Just a matter of finding those little gems. So if anyone has any scans they would like to share drop me an email. **Boonies**
