You're boosting? there's a lot of write up on the 22rtetrucks.com site and lots of helpful people. There are alos lots of base maps and many instructions for it. It's a very cheap, reliable, highly tunable program
Nope no boost yet and not gonna be 22R either... I talked myself into swapping in a 2JZ because I got the motor and trans dirt cheap... Still doing some R&D... Kinda intimidating looking at all these freakin wires!!
MAP as in Manifold Air Pressure right? Perfect system in my eyes for most setups! MS is a nice system, some people hate it, some people ****ing hate it, some people make 1000hp motors out of it, some people love it. You can do ALOT with a MS. remember... Rich > Lean.
Megasquirt is good, SAFC is good, MAP ECU is good, They are all great tuning tools but what it comes down to is your budget, what you will be using is for, what options of tuning do you really need, and your goals. MAP ECU 1 is mainly a fuel controller. MAP ECU 2 does fuel, timing, 2 step launch control and a whol but load of other stuff that is wonders. I recommend starting simple like MAP ECU or SAFC. that will give you a start so you can learn how to use and tune your vehicle. you can find them both new and used under 500 bucks and they are very simple and effective. MAP ECU is the first software I was introduced to and I just sat there with a manual and the laptop and figured it out. loaded a base map and went from there - trial and error
Dude I had a mega on my miata it was legit but I later installed a 1.8l stroked with a Flying miata turbo stage 3 kit that utilized the Hydra Nemesis full standalone. The ECU was the shiz. I sent my harness to the company and they did everything for me. Once I got it back and plugged it all in I just had to hook it up to my laptop and run the car through all gears like normal then rape it through all gears send the info back to the company and they built me a few maps according to what info they pulled and also my elevation so on so forth and it was the sweetest thing I could have ever had in any car. It does everything. You can even set it up and buy a few sensors to monitor G's, downforce, track lap times, blah blah blah. I know its kinda spendy but they are well worth it. However being on a budget then MS is decent and will do the job better than most if not all piggy back systems you could buy
No more donor car... I only got the motor and trans from the guy... The harness was cut behind the intake manifold bundle... Either I get another complete harness and stock ECU or go stand alone... Reason I asked about Megasquirt is if i can find something to read spark for timing (since its got a distributor) I might just do a sidedraft NA setup... One thing I've noticed so far is that there is a sh*tload of parts for these motors! Headers for under $160 new and turbo this turbo that stuff... I was thinking of using an MSD timing computer with my 6AL, kinda the same setup I used on my AE86 with Mikunis 8 years ago... Thanks for the inout so far fellas! Keep the ideas coming...
LOL I'm in the same boat: I have a 2JZGE and a MS (and now I'm at school with no place to work on it so it sits in moms garage...still) there are a number of options for the rpm signal. though I've heard the toyota system works, it's hard to get working with MS. The most common thing used is ford EDIS module. You just have to get the trigger ring welded to the crank pulley and a bracket for the pickup. then just block off the distributor hole. note: get the firing order right. a friend of mine did his 5M and just about blew the motor because he had the firing order wrong at first. ford V6 firing order isn't the same as toyota I6. Parts needed: EDIS module w/ pigtail, VR pickup, trigger ring, any 3 2-wire coilpacks. might need to re-solder the MS board to set it up for EDIS usage. the Megasquirt forum is your friend. www.MSefi.com • Index page
If I got a chance to go standalone, my rule of thumb is... Never go lean. and you learn from there on!
