I thought about a engine sdwap but I decided to stick to the stock 22RE. It has 130,000 miles on it but has been well maintained. What would be some good modifications to increase the horse power?

Buy a different motor or look through here and see how deep the rabbit hole goes.........LC Engineering
Seriously, this is what i had done to my last 22re and it had some grunt. Header, exhaust, supra afm, intake, bored throttle body, plugs 8mm wires, mild cam bored over pistons ported and polished head with over sized valves. that was keeping it N/A so if you wanted to go turbo the money gets crazier but with that being said it is still only a tractor motor with a head that doesn't flow all that well so with out major money the only gains you'll get will be slight at best. Oh and check out the uber expensive super charger lcengineering has as well.

Wow maybe a few mods for now and look into buying a different motor. What are some suggestions on motors? 1JZ and 2JZ?

What kind of modifications need to be done to the truck to fit in a motor like that? It cant be an easy drop in can it?

needs motor mounts, rad support cut, some trans tunnel work, custom drive line and the know how of swapping a motor and all the electronics over.

not the worst swap ever, but not as easy as swapping from a 20r to a 22r ya know

Haha ok if i come across a 2JZ for a good price I will look into it. What about VW motors? I heard of a lot of people putting the VW rabbit diesel engines in Toyota pickups. Would a G60 work at all?

One of my co-workers is in the middle of doing the engine swap. I heard the mounts match up but you need an adapter plate for the transmission. I will get the link from him tomorrow and post it.

I wouldn't do that. You'd hate that. lol

The VW Taro actually is a joint between Toy and Volkswag to sell Toyota Hiluxes in Europe under the VW name. it has a Toyota diesel in it.

Swap the 1uz in. Lexus V8, no doubt you will love it

Or swap in the 2RZ or the 3.4

All good engine swaps, just depends on your budget and your knowledge

i think the 2RZ is a good swap too, %50 more power than 22RE, great gas mileage, lightweight and can be modded for tons of power

You'll find some diesel Toyota pickups in the US, they're rare though. but I'd stick with a petrol motor anyway, less things to deal with.

I ask about the diesel because my co-worker wants a very fuel efficient motor for his toyota 4x4.
