So about 3 months ago one of the most horrible things happend to me... my 2wd 87 pickup blew a engine and tranny and i really didnt know what to do... so i stumbled upon an 83 toyota pickup 22r 5spd with a sunroof, a/c, power steering for 450.00 a steal when i picked it up everything was mickey moused, it didnt have a radiator cap (almost blew the engine) interior wiring was a joke, it was very hard to start the engine because of poor ignitor wiring, half of the exausht system pipes were eaten through and was covered by aluminum foil, the intake system was a joke was not even bolted down, had no brake fluid so brakes didnt really work. lets just say i was having second thoughts about this car... so i reworked the intake system i took an 87 intake and installed it, rewired ignition system, installed a brand new 2 3/4 inch exhaust system with a flowmaster 40 series muffler, put a grant steering wheel and a hurst shifter and now runs great...

im now just thinking about what i should do next to the 83 and just kinda confused so here are some of my ideas... i want to swap in either a 7mge or a 1jz engine im not sure yet.. but at the same time i want to keep the 22r and swap in a 32/36 weber carb, with hooker headers and a bad ass camshaft.... and i wanna know if thier is benifit to installing a POSI traction rearend on a yota

some things i am going to do.. get my gauge cluster restored, my dashed replaced, fix my sunroof to open and close, restore the truck bed, lower the truck 3", put a new grille front and rear bumper, hid headlights..

People say that i could invest money and time into a diff car or something better ..but when you begin to put your sweat, time, money and love into a yota you cant help yourself to just keep going and turning that "bucket" into a true "mini truck"

RIP 87 YOTA (my first toyota)

    Cool man!

Its hurtin for a hybrid motor. Couldnt be any easier for you because of the year.

LSD is trivial on a stock truck, but is definatly worth having once you start making power.

Goin for the 4WD front grille? Looks pretty mean. How about flared fenders?

ya bro i know what you mean but my problem is that i have the single row timing chain i really considered doing that and would love too but people in washington want an arm and a leg for a 22R no matter how old and what kind of condition lolz

:clapping: No worries, the early 22R single chain will work fine with a 20R head. Just swap your old cam pully onto your new head.

JY 20R head and intake. Thats it. Then buy a good carb (like at least a 38/38) preferrably bigger. A healthy cam and header and you will be amazed.

Then it will push into that redline without trying.

BTW, restore the cluster? how do you mean? I have one that style that I fried the tach in. Need the face/ needles, other guages?

see i never knew that everyone says its gotta be the double row lolz...
Umm my speedo is missing a needle and my amp gauge is acting up so thiers a shop down the stree that all the do is take clusters and OEM gauges and restore them new needles, change the light color, and make it new again its like 100.00 but hey you dont find those clusters anywhere, when my 63 impala guage was acting up i got it restored and looked like it just came from the factory =)

idk i was thinking about it but i guess i will cross that bridge when i get thier to the front.. Im just really stuck with what engine i should go with i always wanted to do a 22r hybrid i think that would be really unique, fast, and bad ass but another part of me wants to swap in a 7MGE because I never owned an EFI car before, and its faster lolz im just really stuck ive literally no lie have made like 100 pros and cons list lolz
