i know theres some 2x toys with 8" housing, but i dnt have those..
i do have a 4x 8" housing and im curious to know if theres any way to use it on a 2x?
i want it axle over leaf.
if i choose this route would i need to cut n weld to make it fit or is there a way?
i want gearing on my truck bt cant afford to do a 4 link on it yet..

Aren't the 8" 3rd members interchangable? Sounds like a question for Raff. :meemee:

I would think it would be way easier to just buy a 2wd axle. 22R all motor has one if your serious.

The drop out units are the same, but the 6 lug is the problem. And the spring perches are on the wrong side.

im located in guam so any shipping to here will bite my assss!
i do know weres one but idk if its still good or what..
ok so its not possible to take a 5 lug axleshaft and put it into a 4x axle housing?? what trucks had the 8" rear 5 lugs??
i had one on my old 88 before.. i knew it was an 8" cuz the 4x third member slipped right in.

Is it possible to remove the center and flip it over? The brakes would still need to flipped over. Is the housing different, can one center section be swapped into another?

    it would then run reverse.

    no it wouldn't!
anyways, what you could possibly do is look for a g code pick up truck, a 2wd, it's easy, go to jy then look at there plates, should say a bunch of numbers then G282 that would be a g code with 4.30:1 with 2 pinions!

I explained poorly. I meant to keep the center section the same and flip the housing to put the spring perches on the bottom. The brake backing plates would most likely need to be flipped. It would probably be easiest to weld on new spring perches.

i thought of this too, but at the back of the axle the housing is made for the third member to be in that configuration.. idk bout clearance bt it looks like the ring gear would grind on the housing...

it can vary, you can look for supras 86(and years similar to that body style) and you can find a whole assembly with a g-code... i have seen 3 of them and oliver bought 1... 2 were 4.30:1 with 4 pinion LSD and the other one had no LSD but had 4 pinions!

    USE this for reference:
