So has anybody had any luck finding a good lightweight battery thatll work for our trucks?? If you know of any info thatd be awesome!!!
Besides like a riding lawnmower battery(or a racing one), the smallest and lightest battery ive seen is for a miata. I think like an 06 Accord 4cyl is the close runner up.
Why do you need a lighter battery? Usually lighter is not really better for storing electricity. Unless we're talking Lithium... You could look into smaller Batcaps or Stinger batteries.
so you save maybe 6-10 lbs spending a bunch on a battery...why dont you strip down the truck, and not run a passenger seat and spare tire. that will save you a couple hundred lbs for free....
maybe he wants to do something in his eng.bay... did you think about THAT before you blurted SH!T OUT!!! lol. jkjkjkjkjk!!!! idk maybe he does wana do something with his engine bay....
i read his profile, hes got his truck all raced out... hes also the guy with the light weight rim question.
ohh haha, lol cool... yea if i was him and have a truck all riced out i'd take out the seats and leave a bucket seat in it...
gut the hood's bracing, remove that windshield wiper thing, radiator overflow i'd use some water bottle or can, relocate the battery to the rear, uhhhh.... shorten the exhaust.. alot. header, "cat", "exhaust", make it exit right away lol. aluminum driveshaft? gut the tail gate. how much lighter does he want his truck? lol
If a race only type truck, & weight is the main focus go to glass everything or get the body/bed acid dipped! If the battery is the main concern, size/weight,get a Kinetic! Smallest battery with the most output for size! I run a Odyssey 1500, in the cab, power output & durability is what I want!
I got my Braille battery from Tirerack. You can also get them in carbon fiber. I did have a Kinetic before that, but it only lasted a year and was pretty weak compared to the Braille.
Dam its a future track racing/autox truck just tryin ta figure out all my options so i can do it all at one time and get the most weight loss!
i agree with the reducing weight statements, and as earlier mentioned a lighter battery is not always better, if its lighter that means there is a reduction in lead/metals. Also as stated, unless you go with lithium phosphate ($700) average, you aren't going to be able to go lightweight, and still you need a special charger to do this. Some of the larger batt manufacturers are Yuasa, CSB, Johnson controls, -companies that provide most of your off the shelf batts like optima, diehard, everstart, etc, usually provide a smaller battery. I have had the opportunity as an electronics engineering tech to do a ton of battery studies, and your best best is to go with something small, like an xstatic batcap 800, or another batt with low Amp hours, but going with a "light weight per AH battery is a bad idea, and almost non existent", the removal of lead/metals = loss of quality.
Yeah i see i was tryin to get s good reliable light battery for less than 150 but i think what imma do is just go to kragen and find the smallest battery with the terminals i need but hey thanks for the info guys appreciate it
Ok so i already got the lightweight rims. Next im gonna remove the bracing on the hood. Already shortened the exhaust a while back No spare tire no rear bumper What else? Any ideas?
Gut the bed and tub it. Fiberglass body parts Pull out the dash, interior, passanger seat and anything else you dont need Pretty much going look like one dragster or something along those lines.
Lexan rear window. Gutted interior. Scrape all the sound deadening tar. fuel cell. Bumpers? Wiper system. It all depends on how far you want to go really...
Imma get rid of the bench seat it has and go with two bucket seats. I think ill keep the window wiped stuff its beginning to rain a lot here. Im tryin to remove as much weight from the front end to even it out with the rear. Iv also removed the window washer fluid system soon imma remove the power steering system then....not too sure. I wanna keep it a streetable truck but still do everything i can to make it light
