I have cracked the the timing cover on my 94 22r The chain wore through the guides and then eventually wore out the inside of the cover, which in turn sent oil through the coolant and coolant into the oil Any how I'm in the process of replacing the complete timing set up, sorting out new gaskets etc and wanted to know if the timing cover could be welded? These motors in New Zeland are getting hard to come buy and buying a new cover just costs far to much. Check out the photos Cheers James
its a normal problem that happens with these motors, they make kits that have a steel guide on that side to prevent this from happening again. ive never heard of anyone welding it, but if you have a TIG welder and feel talented enough to get a good seal i guess go for it. You can go on ebay and what not and get these timing covers and for 100 USD.. here ya go http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/85-T...ptZMotorsQ5fCarQ5fTruckQ5fPartsQ5fAccessories
My 2 cents just replace the timing cover with one on ebay and switch to steel guides. Just so that you won't have to worry about it for a while.
hmmm i didnt even think it was aluminum haha. i thought it was some weird cheap ass chinese manganese typre crap. guess i was wrong
Well I will give the weld up the go, I have a few friends that are welders for a living, so that wouldnt be a problem. When I drained the oil water came out first, do you think I have done much damage to the bottom end? Thanks again guys
how did it sound before you took it apart? how long were you driving with the milk shake. you might just have to start it up after you do the timing chain and all that and just keep your fingers crossed.
Months haha But with no knocks or anything. Everything else is pretty good, no play in the pistions. Rings look good to. And just before we pulled it apart it started an ran fine
