Welp. Got my motor down to the shop.

The stage 5 valves need huge valve reliefs in the pistons. Just comes with the territory I guess.

    So...some play-dough...

Then I set the head on the block without a gasket and pressed the valves down by hand to get impressions. Then ground where I needed with a friction wheel.

By far the most nerve racking thing Ive ever done!

Its very hard getting just what you want, to be even, in the right spot, and the right angle and position. I hated doing it.

So after I got it all clearanced, I bolted the head down, torqued and degreed the cam. Set the lash on the exhaust side, rotating it over every time to make sure they didnt touch. They didnt.

Set #1 intake and it touches the piston...:brickknock::mad: Now I have to pull the head and grind it more. Tomorrow I guess because it got late.

But at full lift on #1 exhaust, I could see plenty inside the chamber. Its gunna breathe!

    Till tomorrow peeps.

    Pics explain it....

Renoched the intakes. Basically put play-doh on piston, cover in oil, put head on and compress valve by hand. Pull head off.

Parts I bought before final assembly.

Felpro headgasket owns the ebay gasket I got in a set a while ago.

Longblock (save oil pump) is done, lash set ready to go.

Left motor mount finished with alt bracket.

    Right side

    Set in the car

Not untill I was cleaning up did I realize that the mounts have a removable shell that goes on em. So when I stab the trans (hopefully tomorrow) Ill have to jack it up and slap em in.

:) Car definatly is harder to push. It helped bringing that nose down.

Nam, that oil filters for you Bro! Got a 5 qt. bottle of mobile-1 (I think 10-30). Filter was free. Still 32 bucks:verdict_in:

Yep Ricky mostly cleans stuff. Parts washer solvent, dry. Brake cleaner, blow compressed air. Paint. Thats it.

Bolts are wire wheeled after I ran em in a parts washer.

I guess clean running 22Rs have gold rockers. They're aluminum factory ones. 20R rockers are steel, and not shining gold.

    Chum-I deleted it.

A nice productive night getting my transmission set in. W50 is a heavy SOB. But I got everything how I want it except 1 broken bolt, Need a new mount, and a new clutch lever boot.

Painted the bell black. case silver. I think it came out good. Would be nicer if it was a Dub58.

New clutch kit. (Fitchell and Saches). Had to scrounge up an old w58 throw out bearing slider thing because I lost the original. :doah:

We did just test fit the tri-Y to see how it went. Very nice fit for the bay...

Ran outa time and it was late, so thats all.

What do you use to get to bare metal like that ? whats the easiest way to do that ??? When I repaint my truck I want to take the whole thing to bare metal to get rid of the maaco paint thats on it now, Ive heard that it will mess up good paint if you paint over it !

    302 son!

p.s. to answer your bare metal question, i'd suggest using an air powered sander, starting off with a grit of about 40-60 then as you start to see some of the metal go to like 120+....

Thanks, I took out the trucks hybrid and put it the celica. Celica 20R is in it now. But that 302 will go in it sometime...

A whole lot of hand sanding. I used one of those handle things (like 6X4in) and like 80 grit.
