can we have a thread in off topic, for questions regarding our trucks that needs answered as soon as possible. this pertains to every year model, and every aspect of your truck. if your in a hurry post in here? what do you guys think?
sounds cool. Buttt I see this thread getting insane long and off topic.. maybe a help asap section would be better
lol put it in gear I think 3rd or 5th works good, e brake... a good long breaker bar with w 6 point 19mm... other then that your not gunna get that bolt off unless you stand on the ratchet and jump and hope not to break your leg..
If the engine is still in the truck, take your breaker bar and lay it on the drivers side chassis and bump the starter... If that doesn't work right away, take some heat to the bolt with a propane torch then try it again... With a good charged battery it should break free easily... **note: This bolt is one of those that need to be snapped off rather than applying slow pressure...
Yep, done that before. Just make sure to put a rag or something on the fender so it doesn't mess up the paint.
Long breaker bar.... truck's not that wide.... bang. Well I guess if it's an 18" then it'll sit on the frame. Didn't think of that. Retract my last statement
got er off! then stupid ass me was wondering why the timing chain cover wouldnt come off. i forgot about the oil pans bolts :/ at that point i called it a night. after i took the head off i think its bad news bears for my piston rings arent you supposed to be able to see the cross hathc pattern on the cylinder walls? mine is smooth like glass and pollished looking, and the tops of the pistons are pretty carbony
the tops of your pistons probably will be pretty carbony, the engine has ran. You should be able to see remnants of a cross hatch pattern like this (this is a fresh sleeve, but it shows the pattern well) The next image shows the cross hatch pattern as well, however, this cylinder shows "scoring". The vertical,scratched/ polished line should NOT be there. Note the black spot, this looks to be where a ring could've been leaking. Which one does your cylinder wall most closely resemble?
upon further inspection, in the right light you can actually see the crosshatching. i dont think this picture will do it justice. but also are these pistons pretty clean for 206xxx miles? when i was tearing apart the front of the engine to get to the timing chain. everything looks factory. what type of sealant is this orange stuff? i noticed there was quite a bit of it on the crankshaft pulley. does that require some type of sealant upon re-installation?
so why do i have to remove the crosmember or jack up the engine to remove the oil pan? it looks like there would be enough room to just take it off??
