My son has a 1986 4 wheel drive pickup with a 2.4 liter 22rec moter. we think the block or the head is cracked. It has 198,000 miles on it. I found a motor in a 1991 2 wheel drive pickup that is marked 22R-F. Would this motor bolt up with no problems and what does the R-F stand for? It looks the same as the one in his pickup.

Im not sure the different letters and such but the motor should bolt right in. Going from a 2wd to a
4x4 Id make sure everything is in the same place as far as wiring and hoses just so you dont happen to run across a stray clip or something you dont know what its for. Probably not the best answer but its what I can offer anyhow.

It will swap in except the intake is a bit different

89 the 22re intake style changed
    Longblock is the same

22rec is the same as 22re
That "f" is an "e" missing the bottom of the letters
    There was/is no 22rf...

The oil pan will NOT work, you have to use the original 4wd oil pan. that is the only difference, not sure if you need the 4wd pickup tube.
