Im working on a spare valve cover off an old block..im either thinking about keeping it the way it looks now or painting it. i used a drill and a wire brush to get the look. I dont know how to give it a polished looked either so.What should i do? Leave it or paint it. Trucks white , so what clolor?

i did a similar thing. then i just left it.

then i pulled it off to clean it.
600 grit, some 1000, some 2000. nothing too serious, just partially polished it lol

Nice looking cover. Id keep it that way if your plannin to have more crome under there or paint it to match everthing else. But it looks good like that.

I prefer the old 20R valve covers. Do one up and swap it in. Its a cool touch. Especially on the efi trucks since it stands out more.

As far as I remember they do. I know the valve train itself is the same.

Wire wheels tend to make deep scratches that are hard to get out, especially if sanding by hand. I did a valve cover before where I shaved off a lot of lettering and ridges with a angle grinder and it took forever to get all the scratches out. Sand paper will eventually get you there but it will take a pretty long time if you're going for a mirror shine.

For my 20R cover I used a scotch brite type pad on a die grinder and then went to a bench mount buffer. I could have done a more thorough job of the my valve cover but I had someplace I needed to go. (I also liked the slightly rough look it had.)

Its a 22R, but it still fits exactly the same on a 22RE.
