Im working on a spare valve cover off an old block..im either thinking about keeping it the way it looks now or painting it. i used a drill and a wire brush to get the look. I dont know how to give it a polished looked either so.What should i do? Leave it or paint it. Trucks white , so what clolor?
i did a similar thing. then i just left it. then i pulled it off to clean it. 600 grit, some 1000, some 2000. nothing too serious, just partially polished it lol
Nice looking cover. Id keep it that way if your plannin to have more crome under there or paint it to match everthing else. But it looks good like that.
i did my 300zx s cover, but im paint it to match the car but leaving 3000 polished...but i guess ill work a little more on this cover and leave it... i want to do the thermo housing also, maybe the little stuff...breather cap maybe.. idk.... just experimenting..
I prefer the old 20R valve covers. Do one up and swap it in. Its a cool touch. Especially on the efi trucks since it stands out more.
I have a 20R valve cover on my 22R; fits perfect: This was just a quick polish job, only spent about an hour on it.
that does look good and different...i may need to start search in a junk yard for it! ....tell me something, what all do u use to polish your? i used a metal brush on a drill, but its still not all the way down to the shine...i was told to use sand paper and then buff it...there alot i want to do.
Wire wheels tend to make deep scratches that are hard to get out, especially if sanding by hand. I did a valve cover before where I shaved off a lot of lettering and ridges with a angle grinder and it took forever to get all the scratches out. Sand paper will eventually get you there but it will take a pretty long time if you're going for a mirror shine. For my 20R cover I used a scotch brite type pad on a die grinder and then went to a bench mount buffer. I could have done a more thorough job of the my valve cover but I had someplace I needed to go. (I also liked the slightly rough look it had.) Its a 22R, but it still fits exactly the same on a 22RE.
u aint liein bout the scratches..now i got to go over it with something else...i need sandpaper..a bench grinder with buffer n stuff....i got alot to do now, being i used a damn scratch pad..
ahh i know lol..i wanted the lc cover look..and when i get the new carb itll look even better...i do have another cover im going to polish and prob sell...or hell maybe keep it if i decide to change the look..
the one on there now is off my old 22r..the one i took off today is off the motor i just put in the truck the 22re convereted back to 22r....same cover...still dont know why one covers has 1-2 on the back and other has 1-3 lol..have u notice that on yours?
