i gonna get my engine rebuilt and want to get some extra power outta it. i was thinking of swapping the cam for a performance one. now, what other upgrades should i consider while getting it rebuilt. ive seen that a holley carb would a good upgrade as well. thanks guys.
best bang for the buck is the 20r head swap, after that i would do a side draft, then cam, then ignition and all the other bs... and i also have a 20r head for sale, needs work, but if you are getting an engine rebuilt you might as well get the head work done on a good head then...
is that a good setup for street? my purpose is to build a street/drift truck with quick response and better than stock- power.
I am amazed at the amount of people here saying something about thier truck being a drift truck... but dil has you in the right direction.
Agreed. Personally, my truck grips the road way too hard to get any kind of "slide." But that has alot to do with some way expensive tires and suspension tweaking. But a quick question Jo, do you know if your engine (presumably a 84 22R) has a double or single timing chain? It would determine if a 20R head swap is feasable, My little hybrid motor has great power, and I was running a holley. But you can make a regular 22R run good too, just with a tad more work.
best bang for your buck....... get rid of the stock carb and get a holley or weber to open the front door. get a header, and decent exhaust system to open the back door. a good mid-top end cam to keep the door open longer to flow that air through........ and if you got a bit more cash, a lightened flywheel will amplify those gains and alleviate some of the rotating mass slowing down the throttle response. just my 0.02
very well spoken. for the flywheel most machine shops will lighten it for you and only charge you their hourly. thats what im getting done to mine tomorrow.
