Hey guys im trying to remove the spark plugs in my 92 yota...I tryed using a regular 5/8 spark plug socket and it seems like it is too small...it wont go on the hex of the plug. and I tryed a 17 mm as well with no luck. Is there a speacial socket I need to get to remove these? I am wanting to take them out because its running really bad...After im cruizing for awhile and i come to a stop its running so bad and the engine shakes something fierce and it starts stalling. If i throw it in neutral or park and rev the **** out of it, then it goes away and i can drive again...but then it just keeps hapening. The truck used to stall out when i came to a stop, I put a russel fuel filter on it right after the fuel cell and it stoped that problem. But now its doing what i just described as well with when i start out it sputters and has no power and then it starts going good.
Well I took the spark plugs out...I looked online to see what they are supose to be gapped at. It said .035 My gauge only goes to .035 but the gauge moved around in there pretty well so im guessing they were prolly about .045. I re-gapped them to .035. The back plug wire broke off when I was trying to take it off of the plug. So I had some other wires laying around and grabbed one and went to put them on and this is what I found....Now im pretty sure it is NOT suppose to be like this, But then again this is my first toyota, so I am not sure. Here is the cap Here is what you see if you pull the boot back Is this really right???? I thought the distributor cap was suppose to have studs like this for the wire to clip ointo like this....????
No one knows?....I looked on advanceautoparts.com and the dis. cap looks the same as mine... How are the wire connection supose to stay tight in there if theres nothing for it to clip onto?
I dont have a 22r so i cant go look at my truck to see what i have, but its possable the wires got switched in the boxes, although i can look into this easyly for you, ill reply again tonight.
all my toyota M motor (I6 dohc, 2.8l 5mge, 3l 7mge) distributor caps are the famale type you have pics of there. there's enough spring in the terminals on the end of the wire, and the boots help
I would suggest new plugs they are not that expensive and the insulator can be cracked and you would never know it I use only NGK on mine Stock Part # BPR5EA-L V-Power # BPR5EY G-Power # BPR5EGP Iridium IX # BPR5EIX (Wouldn’t run unless fuel injected) All gapped to .032 from the box i would also use anti seize on the plugs into the head and die electrode grease on the plug wires so it’s easy next time u take them out.
yea, i have the red dizzy cap... its ok... the wires have like little bumps and they just snap in..... yea put that special grease on the tips of the plugs where the wires hook up and on the threads of the plugs... don't put grease on the ELECTRODE.... post pics of the condition the plugs were in... and yup, either NGK or Denso spark plugs will suffice...
Ok, will do...Thanks for the advice guys. I have a new problem...My throttle position sensor is bad.... Its 80 freekin bux! Im assuming this is the reason the previous asshat owner just had it unplugged....
